After returning from working in the fields, a poor male student burst into tears when receiving his admission notice.

Yao Shengwang (born 2005) comes from a poor family in Mang Bang village, Ngu Xa Lo town, Mang Thi district, Yunnan province, China.

In the 2023 university entrance exam, Yao Shengwang scored 621/750 points. With this score, the male student was admitted to Dalian University of Technology, majoring in Software Technology. On August 7, the male student received the school's admission notice sent home.

The postman said he had to wait for Yao Shengwang for quite a while because the male student was not at home. The image of the male student with mud on his face and hands opening the envelope containing the admission notice, then bursting into tears moved many people.

“I just came back from digging ginger and burst into tears when I received the admission notice,” Dieu Thang Vuong said tearfully.

Due to difficult family circumstances, his grandfather and father are disabled, the boy takes advantage of his free time to help his mother dig ginger. Although his family circumstances are not good, his parents never intended for Dieu Thang Vuong to drop out of school.

Not disappointing his family's expectations, the male student was admitted to Dalian University of Technology - a school in Project 985 (China's project of world- leading universities).

In addition to digging ginger, Dieu Thang Vuong spends 9 hours a day tutoring. The male student said he will try to reduce the burden on his family.

After the media reported the news, the Student Affairs Department of Dalian University of Technology contacted Yao Shengwang to learn more about his family circumstances.

On the afternoon of August 8, a school representative shared that they would not let students drop out of school due to financial difficulties. Accordingly, Yao Shengwang will receive special support policies from Dalian University of Technology.

The person added that the school will apply for a loan under the Special Train project, supporting the dream so that the male student can have travel expenses during the admission process. All of the male student's expenses will be covered by the school.

After enrolling, Dieu Thang Vuong will receive financial support from the school to buy bedding and daily necessities for his stay in the dormitory.

"The school creates conditions for male students to both study and work, as long as they meet the requirements and are suitable for their abilities, and can promote their strengths," the school representative added.

With the encouragement and motivation of Dalian University of Technology, the male student affirmed that he will study hard. Yao Shengwang's goal is to strive to win a scholarship to reduce the burden on his family.

Dieu Thang Vuong sent special thanks to those who wanted to help. “During this period, I still use my own efforts and the support policies of the country and the school to serve the upcoming learning journey,” the male student said.
