DNP Water – a subsidiary of DNP – has divested its investments in the Tan Hiep 2 water treatment plant and the Thu Duc BOO plant through its subsidiary, Saigon Water.
Based on the resolution issued by the Board of Directors, the company has signed contracts with the buyers and will finalize the transaction in December. The company expects to receive over 900 billion VND in cash and a profit of nearly 700 billion VND from the investment.
This is a specific activity within DNP Water's overall strategy, focusing only on member units with controlling stakes and divesting from profitable affiliated investments.
The resources from the divestment will be prioritized for mobilization into larger projects that the company is pursuing, such as the Song Tien 1 project with a capacity of 600,000 m3 in two phases – building the raw water supply infrastructure for three provinces: Tien Giang , Ben Tre, and Long An. This project is included in the Government-approved local adjustment plan for water supply in the Mekong Delta region until 2030, with a vision to 2050, from March 2021. Subsequently, Tien Giang province approved the investment plan for DNP Water, and the company expects to begin construction in early 2025.
DNP Water is currently one of Vietnam's leading private companies investing in water supply and drainage infrastructure, with numerous water treatment plants in 13 provinces and cities. Besides DNP, Samsung E&A is a strategic shareholder holding 24% of DNP Water's shares. Each year, DNP Water continues to develop one or two new projects in provinces with economic potential or facing challenges in sustainable water supply infrastructure.
Specifically, in September 2024, the company inaugurated phase 1 of the Son Thanh – Khanh Hoa water treatment plant with a planned infrastructure capacity of 100,000 m3/day, and in November 2022, it inaugurated the BOO Sapa plant with a capacity of 15,000 m3/day.
The company is concretizing its goal for the next 5 years to participate in the construction of two regional water treatment plants for the Mekong Delta with a total capacity of 1,200,000 m3 of water per day (one Regional Plant 1 for the three provinces of Tien Giang, Ben Tre, and Long An, and one water supply infrastructure plant for the Ca Mau Peninsula, including the provinces of Ca Mau, Bac Lieu, and Soc Trang) to fundamentally address the current situation of excessive groundwater resource use causing subsidence, saltwater intrusion, and drought in water supply areas, contributing to the construction of water supply infrastructure for sustainable development.
