Starting rescue operations immediately after arriving in Myanmar's capital Nay Pyi Taw early in the morning of March 31, after 4 days of duty, the Vietnam People's Army delegation of 80 officers and professional soldiers, along with service dogs and specialized equipment, achieved remarkable results, contributing to helping Myanmar reduce the pain and loss caused by the earthquake disaster.
As of the evening of April 3, in the capital Nay Pyi Taw, the Vietnam People's Army team had brought 15 bodies out of collapsed buildings and hospitals. Notably, the team coordinated with rescue forces from Myanmar and Türkiye to save the life of one person trapped in the rubble.
The delegation also organized medical examinations and treatment, provided free medicine; collected donations to support local people; and presented 40 tons of dry food to Myanmar to support people in areas affected by the earthquake.
In addition, during their mission in the collapsed areas, the delegation discovered and handed over many valuable assets to families in the capital Nay Pyi Taw.
With a sense of responsibility, efforts and achievements in supporting Myanmar to overcome the consequences of the earthquake, the delegation received a letter of commendation and encouragement from General Phan Van Giang, Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Minister of National Defense .
Colonel Pham Tan Phong, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Peacekeeping Department, affirmed: "We came here with only one purpose: to help the people of Myanmar overcome difficulties and challenges."
Coordinating with Vietnamese rescue forces in the search for victims at Ottara Thiri private hospital in Nay Pyi Taw on April 3, Lieutenant Colonel Ahmed K.Al Mahri of the Civil Defense Force of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) assessed that the Vietnamese rescue force was "very good, enthusiastic and professional."
The Myanmar side also expressed its appreciation and gratitude for the efforts and results of the Vietnamese delegation. During the meeting with Major General Pham Van Ty, Deputy Director of the Department of Search and Rescue (General Staff), Head of the Vietnam People's Army delegation on the afternoon of April 3, Major General Myat Thu, Director of the Department of Fire Fighting and Rescue (Myanmar Ministry of Home Affairs ) highly appreciated the spirit, responsibility and efforts of the Vietnamese delegation.
He emphasized that the Vietnamese delegation members did not fear danger, working from early morning to late at night in very difficult, complicated, and dangerous locations to help the people of Myanmar and performed a miracle by coordinating to save the life of one victim.
Major General Myat Thu shared: “I see the spirit of the Vietnamese rescue team is wonderful. You work from early morning to late at night. We want you to rest even just for one day, but you insist that you are here to help us so you continue your work. We highly appreciate your sense of responsibility"./.
