On November 17th, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Vo Van Hoan met and worked with a delegation of ambassadors from European Union (EU) member states, led by EU Ambassador to Vietnam Julien Guerrier.
At the meeting, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Vo Van Hoan affirmed that, based on the Framework Agreement on Comprehensive Partnership and Cooperation between Vietnam and the EU, the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), as well as the good friendly relations between Vietnam and each European member state, the relationship between Vietnam and the EU is constantly being strengthened and consolidated.

According to Comrade Vo Van Hoan, the EU is one of Vietnam's leading economic partners and a major provider of development assistance. With the EU's professional, technical, and financial support, many projects in urban transport, agriculture, climate change response, etc., have been implemented, making a positive contribution to Vietnam's development.
Comrade Vo Van Hoan expressed gratitude for the support of European countries in particular and the EU in general for Vietnam, including Ho Chi Minh City, in strengthening its capacity to respond to climate change; notably the Joint Economic Partnership for the Fair Energy Transition (JETP) agreement with initial funding of US$15.5 billion to support Vietnam's green transition goals over the next 3-5 years.

Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Vo Van Hoan stated that the EU is one of Ho Chi Minh City's important partners. The EU business community in Ho Chi Minh City (EuroCham) has made many positive contributions to the city's economic development. He also pledged that Ho Chi Minh City will continue to work alongside businesses and EuroCham, organizing meetings and dialogues to address difficulties faced by EU businesses in the city. Ho Chi Minh City hopes to strengthen cooperation with European partners in areas such as green transformation, digital transformation, climate change adaptation, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
EU Ambassador to Vietnam Julien Guerrier thanked the leaders of Ho Chi Minh City for the warm welcome extended to the delegation, and affirmed that the EVFTA, which came into effect in August 2020, has contributed to creating further leverage and promoting EU-Vietnam cooperation to become increasingly deeper and more effective.
Ambassador Julien Guerrier emphasized that Vietnam is one of the EU's main partners in Southeast Asia with the largest number of agreements; EU member states will continue to invest and share development experiences with Ho Chi Minh City, and also hope that Ho Chi Minh City will support and connect with European countries to achieve significant progress in cooperation.
During the meeting, the ambassadors also discussed with Mr. Vo Van Hoan issues related to urban management, e-government, the construction of a financial center, wastewater treatment, flood control, and investment in renewable energy.
