On the morning of December 12th, gasoline and oil prices continued their slight downward trend, with Brent crude falling by $0.63 per barrel, or 1.01%, to $61.58 per barrel; and WTI crude falling by $0.86 per barrel, or 1.47%, to $57.60 per barrel.
The downward pressure on prices mainly stems from the fuel oversupply situation in the US. According to the US Energy Information Agency (EIA), gasoline inventories increased by 2.5 million barrels last week, while inventories of distillate products, including diesel and heating oil, also rose by a similar amount.
Not only are inventory levels rising, but geopolitical prospects are also contributing to the decline in oil prices. Analysts suggest that while peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine have yet to progress, the majority of Russian oil supplies are constrained by sanctions from Western countries, causing the market to cool down.

Domestic gasoline prices have just been adjusted downward across the board.
On December 11, according to Reuters, a Ukrainian drone attacked a Russian oil rig in the Caspian Sea, disrupting operations. However, the impact of this event was overshadowed by news that Western leaders were continuing their efforts for a US-led peace settlement in Ukraine.
Domestically, on the afternoon of December 11th, retail prices of petroleum products were adjusted downwards across the board. Accordingly, the price of RON 95-III gasoline decreased by 380 VND, to 20,080 VND/liter; E5 RON92 gasoline also dropped by 210 VND, to 19,610 VND. Similarly, the prices of other diesel products also decreased by 40-250 VND/liter.
Meanwhile, E10 bioethanol fuel will be blended and widely sold nationwide from June 1, 2026; while E5 RON92 gasoline will continue to be used until the end of 2030. However, in some localities, gas stations have begun announcing that they will stop selling E5 gasoline from the beginning of 2026, replacing it with E10 gasoline.
