Mr. Vi Kien Thanh - Director of the Department of Cinema (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) - spoke out about the controversy surrounding Bui Lan Huong's "Best Supporting Actress" award.
One of the controversies surrounding the 23rd Vietnam Film Festival revolved around the award given to Bui Lan Huong.
Mr. Vi Kien Thanh - Director of the Department of Cinema (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) - told Tien Phong that the controversy related to Bui Lan Huong's Best Supporting Actress award in Em va Trinh was due to the producer submitting the application without confirmation from the film director.
The leader of the Department of Cinema said that the producer does not directly create or direct the film production process, so it is impossible to distinguish between main actors and supporting actors.
Mr. Vi Kien Thanh - Director of the Department of Cinema - spoke out about the controversy surrounding Bui Lan Huong's Best Supporting Actress award.
"The registration of films for the competition and the registration of creative elements to participate in the individual awards are currently submitted by the production unit, without confirmation from the film director. The jury found that Bui Lan Huong deserved the Best Supporting Actress award, so they decided to award the award," said Mr. Thanh.
The Director of the Department of Cinema said that he will learn from this experience for future film festivals. "The registration form must have the signature of the film production unit and the director to confirm the film's components," the Director of the Department of Cinema said.
Director Charlie Nguyen - a member of the jury for the feature film category - said he raised these issues while watching the nominated films. He also suggested that in the next film festivals, the director's signature must be included in the application form to verify the information, to avoid similar cases.
