46-year-old professor becomes Principal of University of Health Sciences

The Council of Ho Chi Minh City National University has just recognized the Rector of the University of Health Sciences. That is Professor Phan Bach Thang, 46 years old, who graduated with a doctorate in Korea.

Professor Phan Bach Thang was voted by the Ho Chi Minh City National University Council to hold the position of Principal of the University of Health Sciences .

This afternoon (March 7), the Council of Ho Chi Minh City National University held its 24th meeting, term IV. At the meeting, members of the Council of Ho Chi Minh City National University voted to recognize Prof. Dr. Phan Bach Thang, Director of the Center for Research on Nanostructured and Molecular Materials, as the Rector of the University of Health Sciences (Ho Chi Minh City National University).

Previously, the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of Ho Chi Minh City National University carried out the process of transferring Professor Phan Bach Thang to work at the University of Health Sciences and appointed him as the Rector of this University while continuing to hold the position of Director of the Center for Research on Nanostructured and Molecular Materials until the new personnel are completed.

Professor Phan Bach Thang was born in 1979, from Thai Binh . He received his PhD in advanced materials science and technology from Sungkyunkwan University (Korea) in 2009. He was then appointed professor of physics in 2022.

Prof. Dr. Phan Bach Thang has a lot of management experience from department level, faculty level, to head of affiliated units from 2009 to present. In professional work, Prof. Dr. Phan Bach Thang also has a lot of experience in training, chairing, participating in scientific research topics and has many scientific publications and inventions related to the field of health sciences.

Up to now, he has published more than 200 articles in SCIE journals (10 international publications published in scientific journals in the Nature index); co-author of 2 international patents (USA, Korea); editor of 1 monograph...

Previously, in July 2024, Ho Chi Minh City National University issued a decision on appointing the interim Board of Directors of the University of Health Sciences - the 8th member university that has just been upgraded from the Faculty of Medicine (Ho Chi Minh City National University). According to this decision, Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Hai Quan, Director of Ho Chi Minh City National University, was appointed to concurrently be the Principal of the University of Health Sciences. The interim Board of Directors of the University of Health Sciences shall perform the functions and tasks of managing and operating the school's activities in accordance with the provisions of law until a new decision is made.

The Prime Minister has decided to establish the University of Health Sciences on the basis of the Faculty of Medicine under Ho Chi Minh City National University in June 2024. The Faculty of Medicine (Ho Chi Minh City National University) was established in 2009, is a training institution for health sciences, following the school-hospital model, closely combining training with scientific research and providing health care services.
