Google tests Google One package for under a dollar

According to a report from Indian Express, this is a trial plan called Google One “Lite” that is being offered for Rs 59, which is half the price of Google’s current basic 100GB storage plan. However, what makes the “Lite” plan different is that users cannot share this storage with others, a feature that Google One’s premium storage plans currently support.

If users choose to pay for a year in advance, the total cost will be Rs 589 (around VND 172,000). However, this trial package is limited to some premium features such as AI Premium, including Gemini 1.5 Pro, one of Google's artificial intelligence innovations.

According to Forbes, this is Google One’s cheapest storage plan to date, although it is still slightly more expensive than Apple’s iCloud storage plan. In India, iCloud starts at $0.89 for 50GB of storage, but Apple only offers 5GB for free, compared to Google’s 15GB.

Experts say Google’s move may be aimed at attracting users who are cost-conscious and not yet ready to pay for premium storage plans. With a low starting price, users can easily access and gradually get used to paying monthly for storage services. From there, Google hopes they will switch to larger storage plans and pay more in the future.

In Vietnam, the lowest Google One package currently costs VND45,000 per month (about USD1.9) or VND450,000 per year (about USD18.6). Notably, this package allows sharing with up to 5 other users, allowing your group of friends to benefit from the shared storage service.

Currently, Google has not provided any information on whether this "Lite" test package will be officially deployed or expanded to other markets, including Vietnam. However, if successful, this cheap storage package could be a breakthrough to help Google expand its market share in the context of increasingly fierce competition between cloud storage services.
