The Supreme People's Procuracy has just issued an indictment to prosecute 12 defendants for the crime of illegal drug trafficking, in a transnational drug trafficking ring from Laos to Vietnam.
Among the defendants are Nguyen Van Hung, former police officer of Duc Giang ward, and Ha Minh Duc, former officer of the Drug Crime Investigation Police Team, Long Bien District Police, Hanoi City.

According to the indictment, from April 2019 to January 2021, the defendants illegally traded nearly 137 kg of drugs in Hanoi and Bac Ninh province. The drug supplier was identified as Ha Ba Vu (Laotian).
In this case, Nguyen The Thanh (32 years old, in Thua Thien Hue ) and Truong Tuan Dung (48 years old, in Hanoi) were accused of being the masterminds and leaders in the illegal drug trafficking, illegally profiting more than 8 billion VND.
Nguyen Thi Kim Huong (39 years old, living in Long Bien district) is the main person who receives and organizes the consumption of drugs in Hanoi and Bac Ninh province. During the process of buying and selling drugs, Huong received more than 4 billion VND.
Regarding former police officer Nguyen Van Hung, the People's Procuracy accused this defendant of assisting and covering up for Huong and her accomplices in illegally buying and selling more than 37 kg of drugs. Ha Minh Duc assisted and covered up for Huong and her accomplices in illegally buying and selling nearly 135 kg of drugs.
According to the indictment, over a long period of time, the defendants Hung and Duc repeatedly received money from Huong to not report to their superiors or make plans to fight crime. Hung even directly used the police car of Duc Giang Ward to help Huong transport drugs to hide, in order to avoid the authorities. Hung also let Huong keep drugs at the house behind Hung's house.
Meanwhile, Ha Minh Duc directly received money at the price of 20 million VND/kg to "protect" Thanh's drugs to Hanoi.
The prosecution agency assessed this as an especially serious drug case, operating transnationally, with a sophisticated and highly organized distribution network, with lines spanning many provinces and cities.
The subjects used many sophisticated tricks to disguise drugs to deceive the authorities. Particularly serious was the assistance and cover-up of a number of police officers, who were responsible for protecting the law, but became important "links" in this chain, helping the subjects successfully commit crimes.
