Two coaches of the Khánh Hòa U.17 and U.19 teams have been dismissed following a scandal involving the embezzlement of player funds.

On September 14th, Mr. Nguyen Van Nhuan, Director of the Khanh Hoa Department of Culture and Sports, announced that the Khanh Hoa Sports Technical Training Center had disciplined Coach Nguyen Ty of the U.17 team and Coach Dang Dao of the U.19 team of Khanh Hoa by dismissing them from their jobs.

According to Mr. Nhuận, the two coaches have returned the misappropriated funds that the Provincial Department of Culture and Sports Inspectorate had pointed out. The Khánh Hòa Provincial Police have worked with the Department's Inspectorate regarding the violations of Mr. Đạo and Mr. Tý. The Department is currently finalizing the dossier to send to the police for further processing.

As Thanh Nien newspaper reported, the recent conclusion of the Khanh Hoa Department of Culture and Sports' inspection clearly indicated that coaches Nguyen Ty and Dang Dao controlled bank cards, misappropriated athletes' meal and salary funds, causing hundreds of millions of dong in losses to state assets.

Specifically, the U.17 team trains every day of the week except Sunday. However, in 2021, 2022, and 2023, there were months when the team only trained from Monday to Friday. On Saturdays, athletes from within the province went home and did not train, while athletes from outside the province remained at the center but did not train as scheduled. Therefore, Coach Nguyen Ty's practice of recording attendance on Saturdays resulted in a loss of state budget funds exceeding 61.7 million VND.

Mr. Nguyen Ty allowed two athletes to stop training but did not propose to the center director to terminate their employment contracts. Instead, they remained on the training roster to continue receiving their wages and meal allowances, resulting in a loss of nearly 123 million VND.

Similarly, by retaining ATM card details and passwords, Coach Dang Dao allowed two athletes who had actually stopped training to remain on the training roster, receiving their wages and meal allowances without proposing to the Center Director to terminate their employment contracts or stop training. This action resulted in a loss of over 315 million VND to the state budget.

According to the Inspectorate of the Department of Culture and Sports, Mr. Dang Dao and Mr. Nguyen Ty intentionally abused their positions and authority to cause losses to the state budget and misappropriated a portion of the athletes' wages and meal allowances. During the inspection, Mr. Dao and Mr. Ty actively rectified the situation, paying back a portion of the wages and meal allowances to the athletes based on an agreement between the two parties.

The inspectors recommended transferring the case files to the Police Investigation Agency regarding violations with signs of criminal activity against the two coaches of the Khanh Hoa U.17 and U.19 teams.
