Two days of penalties under Decree 168, more than 4,000 driving licenses were revoked

According to information from the Traffic Police Department, in just two days since Decree No. 168/2024/ND-CP, which stipulates administrative penalties for traffic violations, including point deductions and restoration of points on driver's licenses, came into effect (January 1st and 2nd, 2025), local police forces inspected, detected, and processed 25,079 violations; temporarily seized 169 cars, 8,147 motorcycles, and 245 other vehicles; and revoked 4,261 driver's licenses of various types.

These violations included 6,079 cases of drunk driving; 5,405 cases of speeding; 515 cases of overloading; 60 cases of exceeding size limits; 60 cases of drug-related violations; 682 cases of failing to obey traffic signals; and 2,808 cases of not wearing helmets…

Decree 168 stipulates increased penalties for certain groups of behaviors and violations, primarily intentional offenses that pose a high risk and are direct causes of traffic accidents.

For example, failing to obey traffic signals or driving against the flow of traffic on a one-way street can result in a fine of 18-20 million VND for car drivers. For the same offense, motorcycle drivers are fined 4-6 million VND.

Violations of alcohol concentration limits exceeding 50mg-80mg/100ml of blood or 0.25mg-0.4mg/1 liter of breath will result in fines of 18-20 million VND for car drivers and 6-8 million VND for motorcycle drivers.

Notably, drivers of automobiles who engage in reckless driving, swerving, or speeding and chasing each other on public roads will be fined up to 40-50 million VND; those driving motorcycles recklessly will be fined 8-10 million VND.
