On October 29th, South Korean chipmaker SK Hynix announced record profits for the third quarter of 2025, driven by a surge in demand for artificial intelligence (AI).
SK Hynix, the world's second-largest memory chip manufacturer, dominates the high-bandwidth memory (HBM) market and is a major chip supplier for the American technology giant Nvidia.
In the third quarter of 2025, the company's operating profit increased by 61.9% year-on-year, reaching a record high of 11.38 trillion won (US$7.9 billion), with an operating profit margin of 47%.
In its earnings statement, SK Hynix stated that it achieved its highest quarterly performance ever thanks to the overall price increase of its DRAM and NAND memory chips, as well as the increasing daily shipments of high-performance products for AI-powered servers.
This marks the second consecutive quarter that SK Hynix has achieved record operating profits, increasing by nearly 70% to a then-high of 9.2 trillion won.
This increase follows the company's announcement in October of signing partnership agreements with AI giants including OpenAI and Broadcom to supply advanced memory chips.
SK Hynix is experiencing "higher-than-expected customer demand" and aims to expand its production lines and accelerate the transition to advanced manufacturing technologies to meet the growing needs of the industry.
SK Hynix's Chief Financial Officer, Kim Woo Hyun, stated: "We will continue to strengthen our leading position in AI memory chips by meeting customer needs through market-leading products and differentiated technological capabilities."
