The success of the Nuclear Science and Technology Research Center Project not only marks an important milestone in scientific and technological cooperation between Vietnam and Russia, but also enhances Vietnam's atomic energy potential in the coming period.
As part of their visit to the Russian Federation, on September 25th, the Vietnamese Ministry of Science and Technology delegation, led by Minister Huynh Thanh Dat, visited and worked at the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation (ROSATOM) and toured the Exhibition of Achievements of the Russian National Economy .
During the meeting, the two sides discussed measures to effectively and timely implement the Nuclear Energy Technology Project in Vietnam. They also developed a comprehensive plan between the two countries in the field of applying atomic energy for peaceful purposes. This plan includes training high-quality human resources for Vietnam's atomic energy sector, as well as focusing on basic research, applied research, especially applications in medicine and agriculture.
ROSATOM Group CEO Alexey Likhachiov affirmed that ROSATOM is very interested in comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam, especially in the field of atomic energy. He thanked Vietnam for its support in research cooperation and human resource development in this field. Referring to the first International Forum of Atomic Energy Graduates held in the Russian Federation in 2023, ROSATOM expressed its desire to organize the second Forum in Vietnam in 2025 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries and the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Russian nuclear industry.
Minister Huynh Thanh Dat thanked ROSATOM and its generations of experts and scientists for their significant contributions to the development of Vietnam's atomic energy sector over the past 40 years. Minister Huynh Thanh Dat affirmed that the meeting was a valuable opportunity for both sides to review the work already done and discuss future cooperation plans between the Vietnamese Ministry of Science and Technology and ROSATOM in the field of atomic energy, aiming to further deepen the traditional cooperative relationship between the two sides.
Regarding cooperation in the field of atomic energy with the Russian Federation, Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat stated that the progress of the Nuclear Energy Technology Project is receiving special attention from both sides. The Ministry of Science and Technology acknowledges and highly appreciates the seriousness and responsibility of ROSATOM staff, especially the State-owned Specialized Design Institute Joint Stock Company (GSPI), in carrying out their tasks and their efforts to overcome initial difficulties during implementation. Minister Huynh Thanh Dat emphasized that the success of the Project not only marks an important milestone in scientific and technological cooperation between Vietnam and the Russian Federation but also helps enhance Vietnam's atomic energy potential in the coming period. This also serves as a foundation for the two countries to continue implementing more important cooperation activities in the future, especially in the field of atomic energy.
During the meeting, Minister Huynh Thanh Dat requested Director General Alexey Likhachiov to consider the proposal to develop a separate cooperation roadmap between the Ministry of Science and Technology and ROSATOM for the period 2025-2030. The goal is to concretize the directives of high-level leaders of Vietnam and the Russian Federation, and to realize the potential for cooperation between the two sides in the field of atomic energy.
Specifically, the two sides have successfully implemented the Nuclear Energy Technology Project; the Ministry of Science and Technology and ROSATOM are cooperating to build the Atomic Energy Communication Center in Long Khanh city (Dong Nai province). This is an important task currently, essential for the success of the Nuclear Energy Technology Project; cooperation in research on advanced nuclear power technologies to serve socio-economic development, ensure energy security and combat climate change, expected to start in 2025; the two sides will coordinate in organizing conferences, seminars, scientific forums, and courses to disseminate knowledge about atomic energy and nuclear power to the public, management officials and relevant stakeholders; cooperation in training human resources in the field of atomic energy for Vietnam, training research staff for the Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute and the atomic energy sector;…
In the cooperation roadmap between the Ministry of Science and Technology and ROSATOM, Minister Huynh Thanh Dat proposed including several other areas of cooperation, such as: cooperation in completing and putting into operation Vietnam's National Radiation Monitoring and Incident Warning Network; Vietnam's participation in the International Research Center Consortium based on the Multipurpose Fast Neutron Research Reactor (IRC MBIR); ROSATOM ensuring the supply of fuel for the Da Lat research nuclear reactor; implementing cooperation agreements and signing contracts in the transfer of nuclear fuel and other areas related to irradiation and nuclear medicine…
