Despite their best efforts, the Vietnamese women's team couldn't pull off an upset, losing 0-2 to the formidable Japanese team in their final match of Group C in the second round of the 2024 Paris Olympics qualifiers. However, in terms of gameplay, Huynh Nhu and her teammates gave their all against Asia's number one team and one of the world's top teams. Coach Mai Duc's team played with everything they had and displayed a resilient spirit.
The Vietnamese women's team played with great effort in their final match of the second round of the 2024 Paris Olympic qualifiers.
Looking back at the efforts of the Vietnamese women's team, coach Mai Duc Chung shared: "Although we couldn't win, what the players showed on the field somewhat satisfied me with the team's spirit. Before that, we were worried about a scenario of a complete collapse and a heavy defeat against a top Asian opponent like Japan. Because Vietnam lost to Japan 0-7 at ASIAD 19, but this time the score was only 0-2. I think that's already a success, along with the determination of the whole team. I want to express my gratitude for the dedication and good performance of the entire team."
“On behalf of the Vietnamese women's national team, I would like to thank the Vietnamese expatriates who came to watch and support us today. In terms of skill level, we are far inferior to the Japanese women's national team. But in today's match, the players showed a high level of determination. We lost, but this is an acceptable result. After this match, we will bid farewell to the tournament. On behalf of the whole team, I would also like to thank the fans and the media both domestically and internationally who have always accompanied and supported the Vietnamese women's national team throughout this journey. Once again, we would like to thank Uzbekistan for its warm welcome, a very peaceful and friendly country,” Coach Mai Duc Chung said emotionally.
Against a top-class opponent like the Japanese women's team, Huynh Nhu (9) could not make a difference.
The match against Japan in the second round of the 2024 Paris Olympics qualifiers was also Mai Duc Chung's final match as head coach of the Vietnamese women's national team. Having experienced both glory and bitterness, the 74-year-old coach's relationship with Vietnamese women's football has come to an end. During his time with the Vietnamese women's national team, Coach Chung led the "diamond girls" to win numerous SEA Games gold medals, the Southeast Asian Championship, and most notably, to qualify for the 2023 World Cup (for the first time in history).
The Vietnamese women's national team is expected to fly from Uzbekistan to Vietnam on the evening of November 3rd. They are scheduled to land at Noi Bai Airport ( Hanoi ) on the afternoon of November 4th.
Reserve goalkeeper Khổng Thị Hằng was given the opportunity to play the entire match and performed quite well.
Bich Thuy (15) is always very active in the wing corridor.
Tuyet Dung (7) plays with effort
