In Dang Bo neighborhood (Tra My commune), the house of Mr. Ho Van Xoan and Mrs. Ho Thi Xuan (both war invalids) will be completely renovated in June 2025. This is a house built with charitable support 15 years ago that had fallen into disrepair.
In 2025, Mr. Xoan was granted 30 million VND in assistance to renovate his house. Along with their savings, they added money to repaint the walls, tile the floors, replace the corrugated iron roof, and install a ceiling to make the house cooler during the hot season.
Ms. Xuan said: “My husband and I stay at home and garden all year round. Our veteran's pension has increased over the years, so life is more comfortable than before. Our children are all grown up and working now. The government's policies to support those who have rendered meritorious service are very practical and meaningful.”
The former Quang Nam province issued a resolution to support households whose temporary or dilapidated houses were demolished by borrowing funds through the Social Policy Bank to supplement the cost of demolishing temporary houses. This policy has accompanied and supported many households, including those of war veterans, in building new homes.
In Viet An commune, for example, Ms. Vo Thi Tien, a war invalid living alone, received 30 million VND in assistance for house repairs. She borrowed an additional 20 million VND, and with the help of local youth and militia, her house was repaired before July 27th.
For example, the family of Mr. Nguyen Mau Dich, a relative of a fallen soldier (Phu Coc Tay village, Viet An commune), received 60 million VND in support to build a new house. However, due to their difficult circumstances, he hesitated to rebuild the house for fear of not having enough funds. After assessing Mr. Dich's family situation, the Hiep Duc Social Policy Bank assisted him in the procedures and helped him borrow an additional 40 million VND from the fund for eliminating temporary housing. To date, the house has been completed, providing his family with a stable place to live.
In the communes of the former Quang Nam province, the total number of houses for people with meritorious services to be implemented in the period 2023 - 2025 is 1,911 houses according to Decision No. 21/2024/QD-TTg and Resolution No. 13/2023/NQ-HĐND of the Quang Nam Provincial People's Council.
To date, all houses belonging to people with meritorious service have been supported, with repairs or new construction completed. The military, police, and youth organizations have recently intensified their support to localities in eliminating temporary housing for the people, prioritizing housing for people with meritorious service, those living alone, and those in extremely difficult circumstances.
The good news is that the progress in supporting the repair and construction of new houses for people with meritorious service has been completed, helping them to live peacefully in their new homes.
