Hanoi students win gold medal at the International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad.

All five Hanoi students participating in the 2025 International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad will win medals, including one gold medal.

On August 22nd, leaders of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training welcomed the delegation of students participating in the 2025 International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad. All five students participating in this year's competition won medals, including one gold medal, three silver medals, and one bronze medal.

This year's International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad is taking place in India from August 11th to 21st, with the participation of nearly 300 students from 66 countries and territories.

The student who won the gold medal is Vu Nguyen Nguyen from Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for Gifted Students.

The three students who won silver medals are: Dang Nam Phong and Nguyen Minh Hieu, students from Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for Gifted Students, and Hoang Pham Minh Khanh, from Newton Secondary and High School.

The student who won the bronze medal is Nguyen Truong Yen from Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for Gifted Students.

Mr. Pham Quoc Toan, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training and head of the delegation, said that this year's International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad is the largest competition ever held. It also features many innovations in content and format. Accordingly, students must go through three main sections: theory, data processing, and observation (star maps, telescopes, and planetariums).

Students from Hanoi, representing Vietnam, participated in the International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad for the first time in 2016 in India and won one gold medal and four honorable mentions.

From then on, the Ministry of Education and Training entrusted the Hanoi Department of Education and Training with the responsibility of establishing and training the team representing Vietnam to participate in international astronomy and astrophysics Olympiads.

This is the ninth time Hanoi has participated in this competition.
