Hanoi students win gold medals at the International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad

Five Hanoi students participating in the 2025 International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad all won medals, including one gold medal.

On August 22, the leaders of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training organized a reception for a group of students participating in the 2025 International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad. All five students participating in this year's competition won medals, including one gold medal, three silver medals, and one bronze medal.

This year's International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics took place in India from August 11 to 21, with the participation of nearly 300 students from 66 countries and territories.

The student who won the gold medal was Vu Nguyen Nguyen, Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted.

The three silver medal winners are: Dang Nam Phong, Nguyen Minh Hieu - students of Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted and Hoang Pham Minh Khanh, Newton Secondary and High School.

The student who won the bronze medal was Nguyen Truong Yen, Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted.

Mr. Pham Quoc Toan, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, head of the delegation, said that this year's International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad is the largest ever. This is also an exam with many innovations in content and form. Accordingly, students must go through three main contents: theory, data processing and observation (star map, telescope, telescope house).

Hanoi students, representing Vietnamese students, participated for the first time in the International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad in 2016 in India and won 1 gold medal and 4 consolation prizes.

Since then, the Ministry of Education and Training has entrusted the Hanoi Department of Education and Training with the responsibility of establishing and training a team representing Vietnam to participate in international astronomy and astrophysics Olympiads.

This is the 9th time Hanoi has participated in this exam.
