During the reception, comrade Huong was surprised to meet Captain Nguyen Duc Thanh, Deputy Political Commissar , Company 4, Brigade 147 (Navy Region 1) who was performing a joint training mission on the island. Comrade Thanh was a student of the 57th course, Artillery Officer School. While still at school, Thanh achieved the title of excellent student. It was teacher Huong who discovered, guided and brought Thanh to the Olympic Team of Marxist-Leninist Science, Ho Chi Minh Thought and Political -Social Awareness of the school for the 2018 military-level competition.

Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Thanh Huong and Captain Nguyen Duc Thanh on their happy meeting day.

On a remote island, the meeting between teacher and student was very emotional. In the small living room, teacher Huong quietly observed his former student, now a strong and mature officer, and asked: "Do you still remember the late night practice sessions and the heated debates in the classroom?" Thanh replied: "Reporting to you, teacher, I still remember the experiences in handling situations that you taught me."

In the afternoon, the delegation organized a cultural exchange. Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Thanh Huong was the MC. The stage in front of the house had several rows of chairs neatly arranged for the soldiers to sit on. Above, the sky was blue, and the sound of waves lapping rhythmically in the distance.

“Today, we are not just exchanging arts. We sing for comradeship, for the youthful years of soldiers. We sing to connect the mainland and the islands closer. And we sing when we meet our students who are now steadfast cadres at the forefront” - Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Thanh Huong introduced.

Applause broke out. Thanh sat in the front row, his eyes sparkling with joy. In the middle of the stage, songs about the Fatherland, soldiers and the sea and sky resounded in the simple, passionate voices of the soldiers and the staff in the working group. The exchange ended, with firm handshakes and lingering, emotional glances at each other.

Teacher Huong walked up to Thanh and took out a handwritten letter from his breast pocket with the message: “Just a few lines for you. In the midst of the stormy sea, please take care of your health.” Thanh received the letter and gave his teacher a small gift, a box containing seashells and pieces of coral taken from the sea, along with wishes for a smooth journey.

When the ship weighed anchor and left the island, standing on the deck, Mr. Huong silently watched his student raise his hand to say goodbye. In his hand, he held tightly the gift box containing all the feelings of his student. The reunion on the outpost island was short but filled with many emotions. Although time has passed, the teacher-student relationship will never fade.
