In the context of the 4.0 industrial revolution and current competitive information, it is not enough for press agencies to produce good content, but they need to create new experiences for readers through digital technology applications.

That is the view of Associate Professor - Doctor Nguyen Thanh Loi, Editor-in-Chief of Economic & Urban Newspaper, shared at the Workshop "Application of artificial intelligence in smart newsroom management" held on May 15 in Hanoi.

Digital transformation of journalism is the integration of data and digital technology into all areas of a press agency's operations. Therefore, using digital technology to change the model from management to operations, production, publishing, content distribution and business, creating new products, opportunities, revenue and values, is the goal that press agencies must always aim for.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Loi affirmed that digital transformation of journalism has become an inevitable trend in all press agencies.

Currently, press agencies in Vietnam in general and Kinh te & Do thi Newspaper in particular are facing many problems in the development process such as: the risk of large-scale cyber attacks; the impact on information from social networks, even being affected by fake, unverified news; the increasing trend of personalization in receiving information...

Besides, the strong development of multimedia journalism, social media types such as websites and social networks have created fierce competition for journalism activities.

The trend of forming multimedia media agencies is becoming more and more popular, also posing challenges that require digital transformation in press agencies, shifting from focusing on print newspapers to focusing on electronic newspapers. In particular, readers' requirements for quick and accurate information updates. Therefore, the press needs to innovate in technology and organizational structure to keep up with the trend and meet the increasingly high demands of political tasks.

To keep up with the trend of journalism in the digital age, Kinh te & Do thi Newspaper has proactively concretized the Strategy for digital transformation of journalism until 2025, with a vision to 2030, and closely followed the Digital Transformation Index of journalism and the city's directives on digital transformation. Currently, the Newspaper has completed and successfully operated a converged newsroom, expanding its interaction channels with readers.

Speaking at the workshop, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association Nguyen Duc Loi said that this is an important forum to promote the digital transformation process in journalism and media, especially in the context of the fourth industrial revolution creating profound changes in all aspects of social life.

According to Mr. Nguyen Duc Loi, the newsroom is no longer a fixed physical space, but has become a flexible digital platform, where every step in the journalism process - from collecting, processing, producing to distributing content - is digitized, automated and optimized thanks to modern technologies such as AI, Big Data, Cloud Computing, Blockchain. Artificial intelligence does not replace humans, but supports journalists to work faster, more accurately, more deeply and closer to readers.

"In addition to applying technology, we also need to pay attention to professional ethics in the digital age. Technology is a tool, but it is humans who decide how to operate, control and orient AI to serve the interests of society and the community," emphasized Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association Nguyen Duc Loi.
