Cooperation in research and development of biotechnology industry in Ho Chi Minh City

On the afternoon of March 7th, the Management Board of Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Park, in collaboration with pharmaceutical companies and manufacturers with strengths in applying high technology in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology fields, organized a workshop entitled: “Cooperation in Research, Development and Application of Biotechnology in Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Park”.

The workshop aims to promote cooperation in the development and application of biotechnology to promote socio -economic development in line with green growth trends.

Dr. Bui Dinh Thach, representative of the Institute of Tropical Biology - VAST, stated that biotechnology is a high-tech field based on the science of life, combined with technical processes and equipment to create technologies for exploiting and producing high-quality biological products, serving socio-economic development and environmental protection. This is a key task and an opportunity for the biopharmaceutical industry to make significant breakthroughs in its research strategy to create quality products and develop human resources.

Pharmacist Phan Van Hieu, Chairman of the Vietnam Institute of Pharmaceutical Research and Natural Active Substances, FGI Holdings, presented a paper at the conference.

Currently, applications of biotechnology in the healthcare field include: development of biopharmaceuticals, pharmacological drugs, gene therapy, etc.

Speaking at the workshop, Dr. Le Quoc Cuong, Deputy Head of the Management Board of Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Park, said that the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee assigned the Management Board of Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Park the task of developing and implementing the Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Park Expansion Project with the goal of becoming a world-class high-tech park by 2030, operating according to the model of a science and technology park. Priority will be given to investing in the development of high technology in the field of biotechnology, which is also one of the very important tasks.
