With a deep affection and passion for journalism, Professor Ta Ngoc Tan had long harboured the intention and embarked on writing portraits of some exemplary revolutionary Vietnamese journalists. "Witnesses to History" is the first book to realize this idea, based on a synthesis of Professor Ta Ngoc Tan's research from the 1990s to the present.

Ho Chi Minh , the journalist and founder of revolutionary Vietnamese journalism, is the first Vietnamese journalist featured in this book. Subsequent journalists are arranged by their birth dates to facilitate the reader's understanding of history: Huynh Thuc Khang, Ngo Tat To, Nguyen An Ninh, Tran Huy Lieu, Truong Chinh, Phan Thanh, Hai Trieu, Vo Nguyen Giap, Xuan Thuy, Huynh Tan Phat, Quang Dam, Duong Tu Giang, Luu Quy Ky, Hoang Tung, Tran Lam, Thep Moi, and Tran Bach Dang.

The book

Professor Ta Ngoc Tan stated that writing about journalists and their careers, especially those who used journalism for revolutionary or political purposes, has never been an easy task.

According to Professor Ta Ngoc Tan, author of the book "Witnesses to History," in the historical process of the nation, the press is not only a witness reflecting history, but also a force participating in all historical events, a driving force promoting the movement of various fields of social life, a power contributing to the victories in the revolutionary struggle, the progress in society, and the achievements in construction and development.

Journalists are the owners, the direct creators and drivers of the development of journalism. They are also figures of history, revolutionaries, fighters on the battlefields against the enemy or in imperialist prisons, and some even fell in the struggle for independence, freedom, and the noble ideals of the revolution.

"During my research, teaching, and journalistic work, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to access, read, and collect and preserve many documents related to journalists, from research papers and memoirs to articles, newspapers, and magazines. Out of admiration for their talent and character, and respect for the historical and professional values left behind by our predecessors, partly due to my professional work, I began researching and writing about the profiles of several journalists in the early 1990s," shared Professor Ta Ngoc Tan.
