According to Khanh Hoa newspaper, in recent years, on the red soil slopes in Hanh Tri 2 village (Ninh Son commune), ginseng trees have covered areas that previously only grew cassava and sugarcane with unstable income. Mr. Nguyen Van Luc (Hanh Tri 2 village) shared: "My family has 1.5 hectares of land, previously growing corn and cassava; income was unstable. Since switching to growing ginseng, income has increased many times. Ginseng trees planted for 2-3 years can yield roots and leaves, sold all year round. Thanks to that, my family's economy has stabilized and we have accumulated capital to invest in expanding the area."

The stable output for ginseng in Ninh Son is achieved thanks to the production link between farmers and Lien Ket Vietnam Herbal Joint Stock Company. According to Mr. Nguyen Duc Khanh - Sales Director of the company: "We accompany farmers to develop ginseng raw material areas in an organic direction, ensuring a stable supply and consistent quality. In addition to purchasing products for farmers, the company is growing more than 200 hectares of ginseng, and plans to expand the area to 500 hectares. Ginseng products are processed in a variety of ways such as: tea bags, liquid extract, immune-boosting drinks, ginseng pillows..., creating added value for the raw material area".

Besides ginseng, the plant xao tam phan is also being focused on development. Mr. Tran Ba Ninh - Director of Ba Ninh Company Limited (Hoa Thang Ward) said: "Understanding the medicinal value and scarce output of xao tam phan, over the past 15 years, I have researched, invested in conservation areas, nursery areas and cooperated with people to develop more than 100 hectares of this plant in Hon Heo area. In 2025, we have planted 200,000 seedlings and will continue to expand the area of raw materials".

Triphala grows slowly, only yielding 1-3 tons per year, but because it contains many valuable active ingredients, especially the saponin group, its economic value is very high, bringing a stable source of income and far surpassing traditional crops.

Sustainable directions for local agriculture

According to traditional medicine, ginseng has the effect of nourishing blood and increasing resistance, while xao tam phan supports the liver, gallbladder and clears body heat. Developing these two medicinal herbs according to quality standards will help the locality take the initiative in raw material sources, reduce import dependence and build the Khanh Hoa medicinal herb brand.

Dr. Phan Cong Kien - Deputy Director of Nha Ho Cotton Research and Agricultural Development Institute commented: "Khanh Hoa's climate and soil conditions are very suitable for ginseng and xa tam phan. Linking businesses and farmers will form a production value chain, bringing high economic efficiency, helping farmers stabilize their lives, even get rich sustainably."

Promoting the development of medicinal herb cultivation areas not only helps farmers have stable income, businesses proactively source raw materials for production, and consumers have access to safe products, but also contributes to the goal of sustainable agricultural development of Khanh Hoa province in the coming time.
