The Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV) and the People's Committee of Hai Phong City held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction project of the cargo terminal at Cat Bi International Airport.
Leaders of the Hai Phong City People's Committee and leaders of Vietnam Airlines Corporation pressed the button to officially launch the cargo terminal project at Cat Bi International Airport.
Cat Bi is one of the important international airports in Vietnam, playing a crucial role in the socio -economic development strategy of Hai Phong City, the northern coastal region, and the Red River Delta areas.
Hai Phong Expressway is experiencing rapid development, attracting a large number of investors, and there is a growing trend towards transporting high-tech goods by air. Therefore, the need for air freight and logistics services is extremely urgent.
Therefore, investing in the comprehensive and modern development of infrastructure at Cat Bi International Airport is one of ACV's key tasks in its investment and development plan for the 2021-2025 period.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Tho assessed the Cat Bi International Airport cargo terminal construction project as one of the important projects in developing Hai Phong city into a logistics and high-tech industrial center.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Hai Phong City People's Committee Nguyen Duc Tho said: Cat Bi International Airport plays an important role in the socio-economic development strategy of Hai Phong City.
However, for many years, Cat Bi International Airport has only handled passenger transport, and its cargo handling capacity remains limited and does not meet the requirements. The cargo terminal plays a crucial role in the development of high-tech logistics in Hai Phong City.
Investing in the construction of a cargo terminal in Hai Phong City is an urgent need, consistent with the goals and development orientation of Hai Phong City. Hai Phong City is attracting a large amount of foreign investment, mainly in high-tech industries and logistics development.

After a period of effort in implementing investment procedures and resolving difficulties and obstacles in land clearance, the Cat Bi International Airport cargo terminal construction project officially commenced with a total investment of VND 724 billion, a capacity of 100,000 tons of cargo per year, and a synchronized technical infrastructure system, with the potential to expand to 250,000 tons of cargo per year. It is expected to be completed and put into operation in January 2026.
The project is a crucial driving force contributing to the development of Vietnam's aviation industry and boosting Hai Phong City's competitiveness in investment and trade. This is one of the projects using non-budgetary capital, with the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) as the investor, and it has been included in the Hai Phong City People's Committee's list of key projects.
