On July 17, Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Huy, Head of the Pediatrics Department - Khanh Hoa General Hospital, said that the department had just saved the life of a premature baby weighing only 700 grams, 27 weeks gestation.
Previously, Ms. HTMH (22 years old, Raglai ethnic group, in Nam Khanh Vinh commune, Khanh Hoa, formerly Son Thai commune, Khanh Vinh district) was brought to the hospital in a state of premature labor. The baby boy was born with a weak cry, weighing only 700 grams.

"When I received the baby, I knew this would be the biggest challenge ever," Dr. Huy shared. The baby was diagnosed with acute respiratory distress syndrome (RDS), grade 4 hyaline membrane disease, patent ductus arteriosus, and neonatal sepsis - diseases that threaten the lives of newborns.
Immediately, the hospital deployed an incubator, invasive ventilator, and Surfactant pump to support the baby's lungs. However, after 3 days, the condition did not improve. The doctors decided to switch to a high-frequency oscillatory ventilator (HFO) and pump Surfactant a second time.
After 2 weeks, the baby was removed from the endotracheal tube and switched to a nasal ventilator. The baby was given full intravenous nutrition and started trying breast milk from the 3rd day. On the 16th day, the emotional moment came when the baby was held in a Kangaroo with his mother, practiced breastfeeding and received physical therapy.
After 43 days of intensive treatment, the baby was discharged from the hospital.

For the first time, the hospital saved the life of a premature baby under 1,000 grams.
After 43 days of active treatment, the baby gained 1.5 kg, breastfed well and was discharged from the hospital in the warm arms of his family.
Doctor Nguyen Ngoc Huy said this was the first time the hospital had saved a premature baby weighing less than 1,000 grams, marking a major step forward in professional capacity.
"This success is not only thanks to the dedication of the medical team but also the hospital's investment in modern equipment," Dr. Huy emphasized.
