Baoquocte.vn. During his visit 65 years ago, President Ho Chi Minh instructed: The new Bat Trang village must strive to become one of the model villages in the new Vietnam, the socialist Vietnam.

Bat Trang village, Gia Lam district, Hanoi city, had the honor of welcoming President Ho Chi Minh on February 20, 1959. According to the recollections of many villagers, dressed in simple khaki clothes and rubber sandals, he personally visited several families, kindly inquiring about their lives.

Impressions from the historic visit

Speaking to the people of Bat Trang, President Ho Chi Minh, on behalf of the Party and Government , welcomed the people of Bat Trang for their contribution to the construction of the large-scale Bac-Hung-Hai irrigation project.

He praised the people and reminded the cooperative members to pay attention to roads, traffic, and planting trees to improve the environment.

On this occasion, President Ho Chi Minh visited the Minh Chau Pottery Cooperative, headed by Mr. Phung Ngoc Oanh (later a workshop of Bat Trang ceramics).

According to Vu Van Vinh, the youngest cooperative member to meet President Ho Chi Minh at the time, President Ho Chi Minh stopped to watch him print handmade bowls. He also inquired about his well-being and encouraged him to study and work hard to become a skilled craftsman producing even better products. Afterward, he went to the cooperative's courtyard to speak with the members.

During the talk, he instructed: "We must pay attention to preserving and promoting the traditional craft; now we make ceramics for people's use, but we must also make artistic ceramics for export."

Following President Ho Chi Minh's instructions, the members of Minh Chau Cooperative have made many improvements in traditional pottery production. Many generations of artisans and skilled craftsmen are continuing the traditions of this ancient craft village, writing glorious chapters in the history of Bat Trang commune.

Sixty-five years have passed, but Mr. Vu Van Vinh still cherishes the kind guidance of President Ho Chi Minh. Throughout his life of labor and production, he has always strived to improve himself and contribute to the development of his homeland, participating in the emulation movements of the Bat Trang Ceramic Cooperative and Enterprise, such as: "Promoting technical innovation and improvement," "increasing productivity, quality, and saving," and "each person working twice as hard"...

Within his family, he always advised his children and grandchildren to learn from President Ho Chi Minh's moral example and uphold the traditions of the craft village. Currently, all three of Mr. Vinh's sons have followed in their father's footsteps, owning pottery kilns, managing the family business, and creating jobs for many local workers.

Preserving the "Soul of the Land"

It is evident that Uncle Ho's teachings remain a source of motivation, encouraging generations of cadres and people of Bat Trang to strive, unite, and build and develop the "Bat Trang Pottery" brand, renowned both domestically and internationally, becoming a shining example of new rural development in Hanoi and the whole country.

Recently, to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of Hanoi (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024) and the 65th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's visit to Bat Trang (1959-2024), the Ho Chi Minh Museum, in collaboration with Bat Trang Ceramic Joint Stock Company and the Vietnam Fine Arts Association, organized the exhibition "The Soul of the Land".

Dr. Vu Manh Ha, Director of the Ho Chi Minh Museum, said that this exhibition is a community-based display activity, allowing businesses, craft villages, and artisans to participate and tell their own stories.

With over 300 photographic documents, a collection of paintings, porcelain vases, and diverse ceramic art pieces in various forms and colors, the exhibition introduces to the public representative artworks depicting President Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi, by renowned painters and sculptors of the Vietnam Fine Arts Association, along with typical Bat Trang ceramic products created by local artisans.

The ceramic works displayed at the exhibition all possess high historical, cultural, and artistic values, expressing love for President Ho Chi Minh, the capital city of Hanoi, and the Fatherland. They help the public, both domestic and international, to better understand and appreciate traditional cultural values, and raise awareness of preserving and promoting the cultural and historical values of the nation.

The exhibition consists of three parts: "President Ho Chi Minh's visit to Bat Trang and a collection of porcelain works about President Ho Chi Minh", "A collection of porcelain works commemorating the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Hanoi", and "Introducing high-value ceramic art works".

Notably, the exhibition features representative works such as porcelain paintings depicting the historical event of the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of Hanoi, and a collection of porcelain vases featuring famous landmarks of Hanoi: Long Bien Bridge, The Huc Bridge, One Pillar Pagoda, Temple of Literature - National University...

In particular, the artwork "Hanoi Four Seasons" - preserving the scenery of Hanoi's four seasons in a vase - helps the public see a Hanoi with a thousand-year history of culture, heroism, and indomitability, as well as a Hanoi that is beautiful, elegant, and approachable.

In addition, artworks also convey messages about peace, national cultural traditions, love for humanity, love for family, love for homeland and country... messages that generations of artists and sculptors wish for, aspire to, and pass on to future generations.
