Sharing on the official website of the Football Association of Thailand (FAT), Madam Pang stated that she has prepared 3 million baht (over 2.3 billion VND) as a reward for the Thai futsal team if the players can defeat the French team.
Madam Pang (center) continues to encourage the Thai futsal team with a huge reward.
Notably, if they achieve this, the Thai futsal team will make history, reaching the quarterfinals of the Futsal World Cup for the first time. To date, Thailand has participated in the Futsal World Cup seven times, but their best achievement has only been advancing beyond the group stage (three times in 2012, 2016, and 2021). The "War Elephants'" chances are even greater this time, as this is France's first time participating in the Futsal World Cup.
Madam Pang shared: “Now, we are fully prepared and the care given to the Thai futsal team is excellent. In the past, Thailand has never been able to get past the round of 16. However, I believe that this time we will break that milestone.”
The match against France will be very difficult and full of pressure. But I believe in unity, hard work, and that Thailand can do it. You will be the ones to bring pride to Thailand and write a new chapter in history. Most importantly, I hope that all Thai fans will cheer on the whole team today.”
The Thai futsal team has a great opportunity to change history.
Not only Thailand, but all eyes of Asian fans are focused on the performance of coach Miguel Rodrigo's team. After the group stage, the "War Elephants," along with Iran (ranked 4th in the world ) and Afghanistan (ranked 30th in the world), are the Asian representatives in the round of 16. However, in the previous matches, both Iran and Afghanistan suffered defeats. The Afghanistan futsal team played earlier, against Paraguay, and lost 1-3. Meanwhile, the Iranian futsal team created an exciting back-and-forth match against the African champions, Morocco, and lost 3-4.
In the world futsal rankings, the Thai futsal team is ranked 9th while the French team is ranked 10th. In terms of both experience and strength, the Thai team is considered to have the edge over their opponent.
Nevertheless, coach Miguel Rodrigo remained very cautious: “All the players are determined to win the match against France. I want to see 14 players step onto the field strong, conscious, and focused, controlling the game and playing according to the tactics we have practiced. No matter how difficult the match against France is, no one can afford to make mistakes. The team's goal is to reach the quarter-finals.”
The Kazakhstan futsal team caused a major surprise at the 2024 Futsal World Cup.
Also at the 2024 Futsal World Cup, the round of 16 is witnessing many surprises as strong contenders for the championship have been eliminated early. Besides the Asian champions, Iran, being eliminated, two powerful European representatives, Spain and Portugal, also had to go home. Spain dominated their match against Venezuela but surprisingly lost 1-2. In the following match, the 2021 Futsal World Cup champions, Portugal, underperformed and were defeated by Kazakhstan with the same score.
