50,000 VND 6-dish meal: In Hue, they say this is normal

In the context of escalating prices, a 50,000 VND meal with 6 dishes in Hue city shared on social networks has made many people rub their eyes and look again because they thought they were... cheated.

The person who posted the 50,000 VND 6-dish meal is Mr. Doan Xuan Son ( Da Nang city). He just had a trip to Hue and happened to eat at A Lu Rice Shop on Tran Phu street, which according to him is only about 2-3km from Hue city center.

On social media, Mr. Son wrote with a picture of the meal tray: "A 50,000 VND meal tray with 6 dishes in Hue during this period seems really okay. The restaurant notes that it is for 1 person, but if 2 people eat, the basic appetite of 2 bowls per meal is still enough."

The photo Mr. Son posted was of a rather full tray of rice, with dishes made from rice, vegetable soup, lemongrass braised pork, braised mackerel, stir-fried king oyster mushrooms, mixed figs, and fried eggs.

According to Mr. Son's observation, the bowl of rice in the tray can scoop out about 4 bowls of rice and the amount of food can be for 2 people with normal appetite.

Mr. Son added: "At first, I looked at the menu and saw that a rice tray for one person cost 50,000 VND, a tray for 2-3 people cost more.

I chose a tray for one person and asked the seller to get the dish for me. When it was brought out, I still thought that they would sell this tray of food for a higher price. Unexpectedly, the listed price was still 50,000 VND.

Quite surprised, he shared it on social media, introducing a place to eat at the place he visited and spreading cute things during the price storm.

With culinary experience in many places, Mr. Son assessed that Hue city has many restaurants with very affordable prices. He also said that a few days ago, he had a similar meal in another locality, although not in the city, but it cost 120,000 VND.

His post quickly attracted many comments. Most expressed doubts, saying that the image was for illustration purposes only.

However, some Hue netizens confirmed that this is completely normal, because Hue has long been famous for having many delicious, cheap, and quality restaurants.

Contacting the owner of A Lu Rice Shop, she confirmed that the meal in the picture is indeed from the shop and costs 50,000 VND. The shop serves both set meals and trays as shown in the picture. The customers are mainly students, workers, and occasionally tourists.

"My restaurant is located right in the inner city, selling at this price doesn't make much profit, but since opening the restaurant we've kept it that way. During flood season we sell fewer dishes, but the price remains the same," she said.

In addition to the one-person rice tray, the restaurant also sells larger portions for 2-3 people, still at "reasonable" prices.
