The incident occurred this evening (September 14th) on Nguyen Hue pedestrian street, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, when the popular streamer IShowSpeed was live streaming on his YouTube channel with 29.7 million subscribers.
Later that evening, several domestic social media sites posted information expressing outrage at this act of price gouging.
Upon receiving the information, the Ben Nghe Ward Police invited the two individuals who rent out electric balance bikes on Nguyen Hue pedestrian street – as seen in the IShowSpeed clip – to come in for questioning.
The People's Committee of Ben Nghe Ward also proactively contacted the IShowSpeed team to offer an apology to the famous streamer.

Accordingly, as part of his activities in Vietnam, from afternoon to evening on September 14th, IShowSpeed, whose real name is Darren Watkins Jr. (19 years old, American nationality), was present in the center of District 1.
On Nguyen Hue pedestrian street, a famous American streamer participated in a ride on a self-balancing electric scooter. A live video clip showed him being overcharged by vendors there when using the service.
The two vendors selling electric balance bikes initially quoted a price of $100, then lowered it to 1 million VND. When IShowSpeed received the money, these people quickly snatched it.
IShowSpeed stood on the electric balance bike for about 2-3 minutes but couldn't move due to the large crowd surrounding him. Afterward, the popular streamer left and continued with other activities.
Reportedly, the rental price for electric balance bikes on Nguyen Hue pedestrian street is around 30-40 thousand VND per 30 minutes, and can be 50-70 thousand VND on weekends.
Therefore, when some websites shared images, clips, and information showing that IShowSpeed was overcharged 1 million VND for just a few short minutes standing on a self-balancing electric scooter, many people were outraged, saying it tarnished the image of Vietnamese tourism …
