MU temporarily stops pursuing Semenyo. |
The decision was made in the context that the "Red Devils" want to focus resources on the more urgent goal of adding a classy central midfielder. MU and Amorim both highly rate Semenyo but the priority of the Old Trafford team is to upgrade the midfield.
Investing in a quality midfielder is seen as key to balancing the squad and helping Amorim's system run more smoothly. According to ESPN , Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton, Carlos Baleba, Conor Gallagher or Joao Gomes are currently on MU's radar.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano emphasized: "MU likes Semenyo and Amorim also likes him very much. But at the moment, MU's main discussions lie in investing heavily in a new midfielder. Therefore, there is no progress for the Semenyo deal at this time."
The move is considered reasonable when considering that MU spent about 200 million pounds to upgrade the attack in the last summer transfer window. Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko helped the team improve the attack, but at the same time made the midfield an easy weakness to exploit.
Despite temporarily shelving the Semenyo deal, MU has not closed the door on the 24-year-old player. With a fast playing style, good penetration ability and the ability to take on a similar role to Amad Diallo, Semenyo is still in the sights.
