Fresh squid prices are high, Ha Tinh fishermen actively go offshore

(Baohatinh.vn) - The squid season is late but the yield is high and the price is good. Fishermen in Dan Hai commune (Ha Tinh) actively go offshore to exploit the sea, earning 2-3 million VND/boat per day.

When the southwest wind appears, fishermen in Dan Hai commune prepare their fishing nets and gear to start going out to sea to catch squid. This year's squid season appears later than previous years, but the yield is quite high and the price is good, so fishermen are very excited.

Every day at around 3 p.m., Xuan Hoi Fishing Port becomes bustling when dozens of squid fishing boats return.

Fisherman Dao Minh Quang in Thai Phong village excitedly said: This trip, thanks to experience and luck, my boat caught nearly 30 kg of squid of all kinds. After deducting expenses, I earned more than 3 million VND.

Some fishermen here said that normally the squid season starts in the third lunar month, but this year it only appears in the middle of the sixth month (leap month). After many months of being on shore, dozens of boats are actively fishing for squid, with each boat earning an average income of 2-3 million VND/day.

Squid fishing is also quite hard work, each boat needs 2 workers. Every day starting at 2am, fishermen take their boats out to sea about 10 nautical miles from shore. Once the fishing ground is determined, they drop the net, pulling it up about every 2 hours.

“ After removing the squid caught in the net, we put them in plastic bags containing seawater and put them in ice boxes to preserve them so they stay fresh and can be sold at a high price, ” said fisherman Nguyen Khac Hai in Hoi Thuy village.

The squid are shiny and fresh.

At this time, demand is high, squid brought ashore is purchased on the spot by traders waiting.

Fresh squid is classified by fishermen into different sizes

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Mui in Tan Ninh Chau village - a trader here said: Squid is divided into 3 types with different prices. Large squid is sold at 380 thousand VND/kg; small and medium squid are priced from 150 - 250 thousand VND/kg.

The entire Dan Hai commune currently has 34 boats fishing for squid. This is considered a type of seafood that brings high economic value to fishermen. Normally, the squid season can last until the end of the 7th lunar month, so local fishermen only hope for "calm weather, calm seas", and abundant fishing grounds to continue going out to sea.
