The U.S. Federal Register announced that the administration of President Joe Biden has added 37 Chinese entities to its trade restrictions list due to actions deemed to be "detrimental to the national security or foreign policy interests of the United States."
Entities on this list are prohibited from accessing U.S. goods and technologies without permission from the U.S. government. The U.S. Department of Commerce uses this trade restriction list, known as the Entity List, to prevent the flow of technology from the U.S. to China, citing concerns that such technologies could be used to enhance Beijing's military capabilities.
On the same day, US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo stated that the US was considering banning imports of connected cars (smart vehicles with their own internet connectivity, allowing them to share internet access and data with other devices inside and outside the vehicle) manufactured in China and would make a specific decision after thorough analysis.
Reuters reported that Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian stated on May 10 that Beijing firmly opposes the abuse of export control tools by the United States following the decision.
