According to Lieutenant Colonel Le Thanh Nhan, Political Commissar of the Command of Defense Zone 4, the unit, which commenced operations on July 1, 2025, has identified its primary mission as quickly stabilizing its organization, maintaining combat readiness, training, and discipline. Operational plans and documents are meticulously developed for the long term; troop deployment and guarding are tightened to ensure safety in all aspects.
Simultaneously, the unit focuses on monitoring and thoroughly understanding the situation in the area; maintaining uninterrupted communication; coordinating closely with the militia and reserve forces; and strictly upholding military discipline, etiquette, and conduct. Logistics, technical, and financial support are ensured in a timely manner, serving both regular and unexpected missions.
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Minh Duong, Commander of the Regional Defense Command 4, further informed that the defense and security situation in the special zones and southwestern sea and island areas is stable, creating favorable conditions for socio-economic development. The Phu Quoc Special Zone has received significant investment from the central and provincial governments in key projects serving the APEC 2027 conference, opening up great opportunities for the development of tourism, services, and the lives of the people. However, the special zones also harbor considerable complexities, with ongoing crime, commercial fraud, and maritime violations; hostile and reactionary forces are seeking to exploit sensitive issues to undermine the system. These pose direct challenges to the unit's military and defense tasks.
In response to the demands of the new phase, the Command of Defense Zone 4 - Phu Quoc Special Zone has identified its central task as strictly implementing resolutions and directives from the Central Committee, the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defense , Military Region 9, and the Provincial Military Command. “The unit focuses on improving the quality of training, combat readiness, and building a regular force, while strengthening Party and political work. Regularly disseminating information and educating officers, soldiers, and the people in the area to raise awareness of national defense and security tasks; cultivating political fortitude, vigilance, and discipline. Accurately assessing and predicting the situation, promptly and effectively handling all situations, and avoiding passivity and surprise,” emphasized Lieutenant Colonel Le Thanh Nhan.
On the other hand, the Command of Defense Zone 4 - Phu Quoc Special Zone will strengthen close coordination with the Party Committees and authorities of Phu Quoc, Tho Chau, and Kien Hai Special Zones to build a national defense system and a national defense posture integrated with a people's security posture. Simultaneously, they will effectively carry out training and combat exercises in the defense zone; disaster prevention and control, rescue and relief; fire and explosion prevention; national defense and security education ; recruitment and conscription of soldiers, development of Party members among the military; and military recruitment. The building and training of militia and self-defense forces, reserve forces, and policies supporting the military will continue to be prioritized.
Lieutenant Colonel Le Thanh Nhan affirmed: "The Command of Defense Zone 4 - Phu Quoc Special Zone strives to play a core role in building a solid defense zone, contributing to maintaining political security, social order and safety, and creating a favorable environment for the rapid and sustainable development of Phu Quoc Special Zone, Tho Chau, Kien Hai and the southwestern sea and islands."
