The information was released after talks between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi on September 18.

"The parties discussed in detail the situation in Ukraine and noted the futility of attempts to resolve the crisis without taking into account Russia's interests and, more specifically, its participation," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

In a statement on Telegram after the talks in Moscow, the Russian Foreign Ministry added that "the close positions of the parties regarding the actions of the United States in the international arena, including those of an anti-Russian and anti-Chinese nature, were noted."

The Russian Foreign Ministry said the talks between Wang and Lavrov included preparations for Russia's participation in the third Belt and Road Forum in Beijing in October, but did not confirm whether President Vladimir Putin would attend.

President Putin last visited China in February 2022, for the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics, weeks before Russia launched its campaign in Ukraine. He attended the Belt and Road Forum in China in 2017 and 2019.

According to Russia's Interfax news agency, Mr. Wang will hold talks on "strategic security" later on September 19 with Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev, before participating in trilateral talks with Mongolian officials.

Mr. Wang visited Russia for four days (from September 18 to 21) to discuss security and foreign policy with Russian officials. He arrived in the capital Moscow (Russia) after many hours of negotiations in Malta with US national security adviser Jake Sullivan last weekend.

The White House on September 17 described the talks between Mr. Jake Sullivan and Mr. Wang Yi as "frank" and "constructive".

Also on September 18, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, calling for stability in bilateral relations.

At the meeting, Mr. Blinken said he believed in "direct diplomacy" to resolve disagreements in the relationship between the two countries.

Reuters news agency quoted Mr. Blinken as telling Mr. Han: "It is good that we have this opportunity to build on the recent high-level commitments that the two countries have achieved. From the US perspective, direct diplomacy is the best way to resolve areas of disagreement and also the best way to explore areas of cooperation between us."

The Chinese vice president noted that US-China relations are facing many difficulties and challenges, and Beijing hopes that Washington will make efforts to implement the consensus of the two countries' leaders and promote the stable development of bilateral relations.

"The world needs a healthy and stable US-China relationship, which not only benefits China and the US but also the world," Mr. Han affirmed.
