Over 70 vehicles carrying more than 100 tons of essential goods, including books, school supplies, computers, shoes, clothing, and necessities, were directly transported by the Hanoi Department of Education and Training and schools across the city to Hoang Van commune to be donated to the local government and schools.
In recent days, the remnants of Typhoon No. 11 have caused a historic flood in Bac Ninh , submerging tens of thousands of houses, damaging many transportation infrastructure and dikes, with estimated losses of approximately 1,670 billion VND. Hoang Van commune was one of the most severely affected areas.
According to Mr. Pham Van Nghi, Chairman of the People's Committee of Hoang Van commune, more than 2,400 households in 20 villages of the commune were flooded, with 11 villages completely submerged and over 1,700 households severely affected.
In addition, seven schools in the area were severely flooded, forcing students to stay home from school; hundreds of hectares of rice, crops, and aquaculture were completely destroyed; and many inter-village roads were seriously damaged.
The floods have significantly impacted the daily lives, teaching, and learning of teachers and students. As soon as the water receded, teachers promptly cleaned up the school premises to resume teaching and learning activities. Schools also actively guided parents and students in implementing measures to prevent post-flood disease outbreaks.
Sharing her sympathy for the difficulties faced by teachers and students in Hoang Van commune, Ms. Tran Thi Thu Ha, Head of the Political and Ideological Department (Hanoi Department of Education and Training), said: On October 10th, the Department launched a fundraising campaign throughout the entire sector to support the people, teachers, and students in the areas affected by the storm.
