Conductor Le Ha My - Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO) - said that artist Manh Duy was hospitalized on October 18 at District 8 Hospital (Ho Chi Minh City) due to a viral fever.

"According to the plan, Manh Duy will participate in the Symphony No. 9 program organized by HBSO. However, due to health reasons, he asked to stop practicing.

At first, his colleagues thought Manh Duy had a mild illness, a normal viral fever. But when he went to the doctor, the doctor measured Manh Duy's blood oxygen level, which was very low, only 79-80%, so he was required to be hospitalized for monitoring," conductor Le Ha My informed.

HBSO said that shortly after being hospitalized, Manh Duy's condition worsened. The artist suffered from respiratory failure and blood infection, so District 8 Hospital decided to transfer him to Cho Ray Hospital. However, he passed away at 6:00 p.m. on October 21 on the way to the hospital.

Nguyen Phan Manh Duy was born in 1989 and has been working at the Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera since 2014. In August 2021, Manh Duy became an official artist of the theater.

He recently appeared in the oratorio (a major musical work for orchestra, choir and soloists) Footprints of Time , which premiered in September.
