According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, since the beginning of the year, 44 out of 63 provinces and cities nationwide have experienced a resurgence of African swine fever. The African swine fever virus has sickened, killed, and necessitated the culling of a total of 41,361 pigs of all types. Currently, African swine fever outbreaks (less than 21 days old) are occurring in 318 communes across 86 districts in 22 provinces and cities nationwide, including provinces bordering Hai Duong province such as Quang Ninh and Hai Phong.
To prevent a resurgence of African swine fever in the province, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hai Duong has requested localities to implement decisive, coordinated, and effective measures to combat the disease. This includes assigning personnel to proactively monitor the disease down to the village and residential area levels to promptly detect and completely eliminate outbreaks within small areas, preventing the emergence of new outbreaks. Diseased and suspected infected animals must be destroyed. New vaccinations, booster shots, and supplementary vaccinations should be administered to livestock, ensuring that at least 80% of the total livestock requiring vaccination are vaccinated as soon as possible.
The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine guides livestock farmers to strengthen the application of hygiene and disease prevention measures for their livestock, ensuring biosecurity and disease safety in farming practices. Strictly enforce quarantine at the source, and closely control the transportation and trade of animals and animal products into the area. Promptly detect and strictly handle cases of violations in the trading and transportation of animals that do not comply with regulations...
In Hai Duong province, in 2019, African swine fever outbreaks occurred in all districts and cities, resulting in the culling of 392,292 pigs. The outbreak was subsequently brought under control. Pig farming developed steadily, growing by 4.6% compared to the same period in 2023. However, the risk of new outbreaks remains very high in areas that were previously disease hotspots and high-risk zones.
