Writer Nguyen Thi Minh Ngoc returns to directing after 13 years

On the afternoon of March 28th, the Quoc Thao Theater began staging the play "The Hired Killer," inspired by the literary work of Nguyen Ngoc Tu, written by Nguyen Thi Minh Ngoc. The original title was "The Dry Heart," but after discussions with artist Quoc Thao, they both collaborated on the directing with the new title, "The Hired Killer."

"In fact, this script has been revised many times. Previously, I intended to stage it at the Hoang Thai Thanh theater, but due to unfavorable circumstances, the play couldn't be made. This time, I met director Quoc Thao, and we decided to work together to release it to the audience in April. I hope the play will be well-received at the Quoc Thao theater," said writer Nguyen Thi Minh Ngoc.

What made her even happier was working with a team she knew well, understanding each other, and above all, wanting to bring audiences a wide range of emotions about human relationships and life through a poignant and deeply human story.

The play features the participation of artists such as People's Artist Viet Anh, People's Artist Huu Quoc, Meritorious Artist Tuyet Thu, artist Quoc Thao, actor Truong Phuc, and Lam Thanh Tiep. Notably, Meritorious Artist Minh Trang returned from Singapore to participate in this performance.

Director Quoc Thao said that after moving to the Phu Nhuan Cultural Center, many audience members requested that Quoc Thao Theatre stage more serious dramas. This time, he decided to collaborate with director Nguyen Thi Minh Ngoc, with whom he shared many memories from their youth on the small stage at 5B Vo Van Tan (now the Ho Chi Minh City Small Stage Theatre).

"I'm very excited, and the crew members also really enjoy the literary story of this play. The most touching thing is the pair Viet Anh and Minh Trang. After being away from the stage for quite a while, now they are both standing together in a play and are a solid support for the young cast. This is something very precious to our theater," said director Quoc Thao.

Writer Nguyen Thi Minh Ngoc expressed her gratitude to the readers of Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper for supporting her literary work "The Opera Singer," published by the Stage Publishing House in 2023. This work was awarded the "Outstanding Cultural and Artistic Award 2023" at the 29th Mai Vang Awards, organized by Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper .

"I'm still overwhelmed with emotion because my literary work won the award, and I'm using the 20 million VND prize money to support the charitable activities I've been quietly doing for a long time. Many readers have sent me congratulatory messages. That's a great encouragement for me personally, giving me more energy to continue writing," she affirmed, expressing her joy during her visit to her hometown.
