In the 33rd round of the Japanese championship, Yokohama FC suffered a 0-1 defeat at home against Shonan Bellmare, a direct competitor for survival in the league. This loss has pushed Yokohama FC to the brink of relegation.

With only one match remaining in the season, Yokohama FC is at the bottom of the table with 29 points, 3 points behind the safety zone and also significantly behind in goal difference (-26 vs -14). It's almost certain that Cong Phuong's club will be relegated. Even a resounding victory against strong team Kashima Antlers in the final round wouldn't guarantee their survival.
This is sad news for Cong Phuong and Yokohama FC, as the club only recently earned promotion to the Japanese league this season. Cong Phuong signed a three-year contract with Yokohama FC at the beginning of the season but has yet to play a single match in the Japanese national league.
After joining Yokohama FC, Cong Phuong set a target of playing 25 matches, but in reality, he has only featured for a mere 2 minutes in the match against Nagoya Grampus in the Japanese League Cup on April 5th.

Not being given enough playing time at Yokohama FC has cost Cong Phuong his place in the Vietnamese national team. With the Japanese club relegated, Cong Phuong may consider returning to Vietnam to play in the hope of regaining his place in the national team.
Not long ago, the Japanese newspaper Football Tribe advised the 1995-born player to return to Vietnam to salvage his career. The newspaper wrote: "Cong Phuong is at the peak of his career but isn't getting much playing time. Fans believe he should give up his dream of playing football in Japan and return to the V-League as soon as possible."
