The Sydney Morning Herald reported that the woman who died in the incident, identified as Tuyet Nguyen, jumped onto the tracks at 3:30 p.m. on July 9 (local time) to retrieve a dropped sandal and was unable to climb back onto the tracks before the train arrived. The accident reportedly occurred at Punchbowl station in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.

"The 52-year-old woman jumped onto the tracks at Punchbowl station to retrieve something that had fallen, but she was then unable to climb back up on her own as the train pulled into the station. New South Wales paramedics and paramedics quickly arrived at the scene and performed CPR, but the victim did not survive," Australian police said.
Australian police later stated that their officers had interviewed numerous witnesses who were present at the scene, as well as collected security camera footage from the station "as part of the investigation."
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the tragic incident caused the rail system at Punchbowl station to shut down, forcing many passengers to use other modes of transport.
