On March 17th, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training sent a document to the Ministry of Education and Training requesting adjustments to the schedule for the 2025 High School Graduation Examination.
According to the Department, in the 2024-2025 school year, nearly 130,000 students across the city will be taking the high school graduation exam. The number of students taking the high school graduation exam accounts for approximately 1/10 of the national total.
This is also the first year that high school students are taking the high school graduation exam under the 2018 general education program, and it is also the year that regulations related to student enrollment, tutoring, and supplementary classes are being applied.
"With the largest number of students nationwide and the large scale of the exam, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training requests the Ministry of Education and Training to adjust the exam schedule to be earlier than the announced draft in order to ensure thorough and careful preparation," the Hanoi Department of Education and Training stated.
Meanwhile, the Nghe An Department of Education and Training has proposed adjusting the schedule for the 2025 high school graduation exam, specifically to June 8th, 9th, and 10th, three weeks earlier than the plan previously announced by the Ministry of Education and Training.
Nghe An also requested the Ministry of Education and Training to promptly issue directives, plans for organizing the exam, and exam schedules so that the Departments of Education and Training can proactively advise the People's Committees of provinces and cities to promptly issue directives on organizing the exam in their localities.
If the exam schedule is adjusted, the Nghe An Department of Education and Training also requests the Ministry to allow adjustments to the teaching timeframe for final-year students to complete the curriculum before May 10th.
According to Mr. Thai Van Thanh, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Nghe An province, in the current context, the whole country is implementing the Party and State's policy on rearranging and merging provinces and cities and concluding the tasks at the district level according to Conclusion 127-KL/TW dated February 28, 2025 of the Politburo and the Secretariat on conducting research and proposing further rearrangement of the organizational structure of the political system. Adjusting the exam schedule aims to ensure the rights of students; stabilize the psychology of parents and students; and facilitate the preparation work of localities to safely implement the 2025 High School Graduation Exam.

The Directors of the Departments of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City and Ninh Binh province have also submitted proposals to the Ministry of Education and Training requesting that the high school graduation exam be held earlier this year.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training stated that the reason was to ensure the rights of students, stabilize parents' psychology, and create favorable conditions for localities to prepare for the exam to be held safely, seriously, and in accordance with regulations.
2025 will be the first year that 12th-grade students take the High School Graduation Exam under the new general education program. As a year of exam reform, the Ministry of Education and Training has adjusted the exam plan, reducing the number of subjects. Each candidate will only take two compulsory subjects: Mathematics and Literature, and two elective subjects.
Previously, the Ministry of Education and Training had planned to hold the exam on June 26th and 27th.
Professor Nguyen Ngoc Ha, Deputy Director of the Quality Management Department (Ministry of Education and Training), said that the ministry always prepares flexible plans to adapt to objective conditions.
According to Mr. Ha, the high school graduation exam is a national-level exam, taking place simultaneously in all 63 provinces and cities, and is prepared well in advance. Therefore, there will be no situation where each locality organizes a different exam. If there are any adjustments, they will take place simultaneously nationwide, and the Ministry of Education and Training will carefully consider them.
