On September 3, Vietnam Social Security announced that from the beginning of the year to the end of July, the whole country had over 4.3 million students going for health insurance examination and treatment with the amount paid by the health insurance fund of nearly 1,770 billion VND. Of these, there were 20 cases where the health insurance fund paid large treatment costs from 200 million to nearly 1 billion VND.

Specifically, the case of patient with card code HS40101299XXXXX (Dong Da Ward, Hanoi ) unfortunately suffered from acute lymphoblastic leukemia, some retinal diseases, pneumonia and body injuries, and the health insurance fund paid more than 967 million VND.
Patient with card code HS47979326XXXXX (Binh Thoi Ward, Ho Chi Minh City) had respiratory infection and leukemia and was paid more than 473 million VND by the Health Insurance Fund.
Patient with card code HS43636202XXXXX (Hung Loc Ward, Ninh Binh Province) suffering from lymphoma, epilepsy syndrome and myeloid leukemia received more than 452 million VND from the Health Insurance Fund...
In addition, there are many cases of students across the country who unfortunately contracted serious illnesses such as sepsis, heart failure, respiratory failure, etc. with high medical examination and treatment costs that were all covered by the Health Insurance Fund during the treatment process.
In fact, over the years, thanks to participating in health insurance, students who are unfortunately sick are treated and well cared for at medical facilities, with high-tech medical services. Especially, for those with incurable or chronic diseases that require long-term treatment, many sessions, and high costs, the health insurance fund has reduced the burden on the families of students.
Statistics show that in the 2024-2025 school year, the whole country will have more than 20.8 million students participating in health insurance, reaching a rate of 98.4%, an increase of nearly 1% compared to the previous school year. In the first 6 months of 2025 alone, the health insurance fund paid more than 2,075 billion VND for 4.3 million student medical examinations and treatments, an increase of 17% and 7.4% respectively compared to the same period in 2024.
Recently, the Government issued Decree No. 188, which stipulates new health insurance premiums for students.
Accordingly, the state budget supports at least 50% of the health insurance premium. As a result, each student only has to pay a maximum of about 631,800 VND/year, saving an additional 252,720 VND/year compared to the previous school year.
In the new school year, more than 20 million students nationwide will receive state budget support for half of their health insurance premiums.
