Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên03/12/2023

On December 3, news from Tran Van District Police ( Ca Mau ) said that the unit is verifying and investigating the cause of a large explosion on a fishing boat that left 3 fishermen seriously injured and hospitalized.

According to initial information, at about 9:25 a.m. the same day, Mr. BMC (34 years old, residing in Khanh Binh Tay Bac commune, Tran Van Thoi district) drove his fishing boat to the gas station to buy fuel to prepare to go fishing. Mr. C's boat was fishing for crabs, but had no registration number, and there were 4 other fishermen on board.

Victims of the fishing boat explosion are being treated at Ca Mau General Hospital.

When they arrived at the gas station and had not yet reached the shore, the fishing boat's engine could not slow down. A few minutes later, a loud explosion came from the engine room, injuring Mr. C. and two fishermen. Immediately after, all three were taken to Ca Mau General Hospital for emergency treatment. Among them, Mr. C. and one fisherman suffered burns over more than 50% of their bodies.

Inspection and recording of the scene showed that the hatch cover of the fishing boat was thrown away by the explosion, the glass windows in the cabin were broken into many pieces, and the side of the fishing boat was cracked.

According to the People's Committee of Khanh Binh Tay Bac Commune, Mr. C's fishing boat was built in 2023, 11.5 m long, 2.9 m wide, 70 CV engine capacity. The People's Committee of the Commune persuaded Mr. C's boat to sign a commitment to stop operating in November 2023 because the boat had "3 no's" (no registration, no fishing license, no inspection), but Mr. C still let the boat operate and the above incident occurred.
