High-tech agriculture - inevitable trend

(VLO) In recent times, Vinh Long province has focused on building agricultural production areas applying high technology (CNC) through projects, programs, and agricultural production models integrating technical solutions, applying technology, increasing value, ensuring output and being environmentally friendly. Many CNC application models have been effective and gradually replicated.

In the coming time, the provincial agricultural sector will strengthen propaganda and introduce new technical advances and technologies applied to agricultural production.

Many effective models

According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, in recent times, the province has built and maintained a farming model that prioritizes the use of organic fertilizers, organic production and organic certification, such as the Tan Dat herbal organic rice production model of the Tan Dat Agricultural Production and Service Cooperative in Trung Ngai commune (Vung Liem district) with 30 hectares certified, an output of nearly 500 tons/year, products that meet USDA, EU, JAS standards and 115 hectares of organic production with stable output and using QR codes to trace the origin of value-added products such as organic rice, herbal purple rice; applying 100% mechanization in land preparation and harvesting and 100% of the area using drones to spray pesticides.

The 38.54ha organic coconut model with 93 farming households in Trung An commune (Vung Liem district) has achieved EU and USDA organic certification and is continuing to expand to other localities.

In addition, in 2023, the province will also deploy support for digital transformation to trace the origin of CNC models for 7 greenhouses growing melons ( Vinh Long City), 4 smart sprinkler irrigation models on watercress (Binh Minh Town), 2 applications of automatic irrigation systems to implement digital transformation models in organic cultivation of durian and longan (Binh Tan District)...

According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Tam Binh district, the district's agricultural sector has focused on implementing CNC production models, producing according to organic standards for key products and products with potential and consumption markets such as: rice, vegetables, citrus trees, and key fruit trees of the district.

At the same time, planning concentrated production areas, large-scale goods associated with linkages in production and product consumption; applying technology to agricultural production and production in the direction of VietGAP and organic.

Accordingly, many models that bring high efficiency and income to farmers are continuing to be maintained and developed, improving quality, such as: the model of growing red-fleshed jackfruit according to the value chain with VietGAP certification (Hau Loc commune), the model of growing seedless lemons with export growing area codes (Ngai Tu commune), the model of raising eels for breeding and commercial eels (My Loc commune); the model of growing durian meeting VietGAP standards, applying CNC (Phu Loc commune and My Thanh Trung commune).

In Binh Minh Town, according to the Economic Department, in recent times, the crop structure has been shifted in the right direction, CNC applied agriculture has been implemented, production according to GAP standards, food safety has been increasingly expanded, and many effective production models have been built.

In 2023, the town invested in completing the construction of the watercress raw material area in Thuan Thanh hamlet, Thuan An commune with over 23.5 hectares of 50 production households certified by VietGAP, achieving 3-star OCOP; investing in relatively synchronous electricity, traffic and irrigation infrastructure to serve production; products have branded goods, connected to the supermarket system; successfully piloted 4 points of the model of applying automatic irrigation via smartphone, 6 points of the model of applying organic fertilizer to overcome plant death in the dry season.

Promote propaganda towards clean agriculture

Many agricultural production models in the direction of safety and high technology bring efficiency.

However, according to the agricultural sector, in addition to the achieved results, up to now, the number of projects calling for investment in the agricultural and rural sectors, especially in the aspect of CNC application, implemented in practice is very low.

Currently, the province has not yet formed any CNC application agricultural zones or areas and no enterprises have been recognized as CNC application agricultural enterprises according to regulations.

Besides, specific policies on developing agriculture applying CNC; investing in infrastructure, processing products to support cooperative development... have been issued, but policy approach is not effective.

The application of science and technology in agricultural production mainly focuses on the application of technical advances in plant and animal breeds and the transfer of advanced techniques in cultivation and animal husbandry; however, the application of automation technology, information technology - digital transformation, synchronous mechanization... is still limited.

To promote the development of CNC agriculture, according to Mr. Le Thanh Thuan - Head of the Economic Department of Binh Minh Town, the locality will continue to restructure the agricultural sector towards increasing value, sustainable development and implementing Resolution No. 03-NQ/TU, the plan of the Town Party Committee and People's Committee on developing CNC agriculture in the period of 2021-2030.

Focus on reviewing and supplementing agricultural production planning, agricultural and aquatic land use structure towards reducing rice growing area, developing specialized vegetable and fruit growing area associated with shifting the structure of suitable and diverse crops and livestock, creating many high-value commodities to meet market demand.

Promote the application of science and technology in production, gradually apply CNC, meet VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards. Encourage farmers to use new high-quality varieties, convert crop and livestock varieties to adapt to climate change and salinity, pay special attention to developing agricultural services.
