When "Peach, Pho, and Piano" became a box office sensation, audiences paid attention to the newcomer playing the lead female role. The actress playing the Hanoi socialite Thuc Huong is Cao Thi Thuy Linh. Thuy Linh, born in 2003, studied at the Central University of Arts Education but later found it unsuitable and switched to marketing. She is described as having a feminine and elegant appearance. Lao Dong newspaper had a conversation with Thuy Linh to talk about her journey into cinema as the muse of the film "Peach, Pho, and Piano." Thuy Linh is from a generation born in peacetime ; how did she embody the character when playing a girl living during wartime? - I am a young person living in peacetime, and I myself cannot fully understand life in the past, how everything happened. To learn about the context, I read books and received guidance and stories from director Phi Tien Son. When I arrived on set, I was overwhelmed and truly felt the intensity of the scene. When the film unexpectedly became a sensation on various platforms after more than a week since its release, did this sudden overnight fame put pressure on you? - When the film started gaining attention, I was worried. Currently, I'm still focusing on my studies at school. The film's appeal certainly brought me more attention, and I felt quite pressured. The film received both praise and criticism. Personally, I know my abilities well; I know I didn't quite express myself in this film. As a marketing student, what led you to the lead female role in a historical film? - I'm new, so I faced many difficulties, but luckily I received a lot of support and help from the crew. Previously, I studied at the Central University of Arts Education. I knew the seniors there and was introduced to projects, which is how I found out about and came to the casting. I had to audition twice before being selected. Initially, the film crew was only casting for supporting roles. I auditioned and caught the director's attention. After that, I auditioned several more times and was chosen. The climactic ending of the film brought many viewers to tears. Was that scene difficult for you in your first foray into acting? - I had to re-shoot the scene where I'm holding a three-pronged bomb many times. Director Son helped me stay focused and supported me a lot during that segment. He explained that he wanted me to understand the emotions and thoughts in that chaotic situation. From there, I used those emotions to portray the character.Thùy Linh plays the female lead in "Peach, Pho and Piano" alongside veteran actor Doãn Quốc Đam. Photo: Character's Facebook page.
From auditioning for a supporting role to being chosen for the lead role, was Thuy Linh making a risky and bold decision? - From the beginning, I told Director Son that I was afraid I couldn't do it because I had no experience. He encouraged me to be confident. When I got to the set, the other actors and actresses all helped me. When I watched it back, I saw that I had developed and matured more than before. As an amateur actress, without formal training, I am grateful for everyone's support. When I was accepted, I faced many difficulties in learning the necessary knowledge. In the past few days, I myself have been surprised that a film about the revolution has received so much attention from the audience. I am happy but also worried about having this kind of experience for the first time. In the film, Thuy Linh has a steamy scene with Doan Quoc Dam. How did you overcome this challenge? - Director Phi Tien Son helped me a lot with this scene. Initially, I was shy because I lacked experience, but when we were on set, Mr. Dam supported me a lot, helping me feel more confident to complete that scene. With your debut role receiving attention, do you consider this a stepping stone to starting your acting career? - Currently, I'm still not sure what I'll do next. I will still prioritize my studies at school. Regarding whether I will pursue an acting career, I can't reveal that yet. Looking back on your journey with "Dao, Pho and Piano," what are some memorable moments for you? - I filmed for about 45 days, with help from director Phi Tien Son, Mr. Tran Luc, and Mr. Trung Hieu. Because it was my first role, everything was new, difficult, and unfamiliar to me. I remember the days of practicing piano and going to the film set. Before filming, the film crew came to my house to talk to my parents. Afterwards, my parents trusted and happily supported me in acting.Laodong.vn
