On the evening of June 2nd, Ha Thi Linh entered the play-off match for a ticket to the 2024 Olympics against Finnish opponent Vilma Viitanmen. This was the last chance for Vietnamese boxing to secure another spot at the Olympic Games.
Against a strong opponent, the Vietnamese female fighter played very confidently, defended well, and delivered highly accurate blows, ultimately winning with a score of 4-1 (30/27, 29/27, 28/29, 29/28, 29/28).
The victory means Ha Thi Linh ranked 3rd in the women's 60kg category at the Olympic qualifying tournament in Bangkok (Thailand), but more importantly, she officially won a ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Thus, Ha Thi Linh is the second Vietnamese boxer to attend the 2024 Olympics (after Vo Thi Kim Anh). 4 years ago, Vietnamese boxing also had 2 spots at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Nguyen Van Duong (57kg men) and Nguyen Thi Tam (51kg women).
Up to this point, Vietnamese sports have 11 official slots to attend the Paris Olympics, including Nguyen Thi That (cycling), Trinh Thu Vinh, Le Thi Mong Tuyen (shooting), Nguyen Huy Hoang (swimming), Trinh Van Vinh (weightlifting), Nguyen Thuy Linh, Le Duc Phat (badminton), Nguyen Thi Huong (canoeing), Pham Thi Hue (rowing), Vo Thi Kim Anh, Ha Thi Linh (boxing).
