Báo Dân ViệtBáo Dân Việt16/06/2024

Farmers are excited about their new livelihoods, livestock are adapting and growing well in local soil conditions, and the potential for tourism exploitation is becoming increasingly evident.

The goats are growing well.

With the form of farmers contributing 30%, the National Agricultural Extension Center supports 70% of the cost of breeds and materials, the model implemented in Khanh Hoa has a total scale of 300 female goats and 15 male goats with the target of each female goat giving birth to 1.6 litters/year, the rate of raised goats surviving to 3 months old reaching 90% or more; economic efficiency increases by 10% or more compared to mass farming.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Son - an officer of the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center, project manager, said that in 2023, the project was implemented in 2 households in 2 communes of Khanh Phu and Khanh Trung (Khanh Vinh district, Khanh Hoa province) with a scale of 105 goats, including 5 foreign male goats, 80 crossbred female Boer goats and 20 female Bach Thao goats.

Mr. Trieu Duc Phan (Khanh Trung commune) participated in the model from the beginning. The project supported him to raise 63 goats (3 male goats, 48 crossbred Boer goats and 12 Bach Thao female goats).

“Not only supporting breeding goats, agricultural extension officers also supported my family with barn construction, grass planting techniques, feed formulas, and goat care techniques.

Thanks to that, the herd of goats has developed very well. All female goats have conceived successfully. More than 90% of female goats reproduce and raise their kids well" - Mr. Phan shared.

Mr. Tran Thanh Bach's herd (Nga Hai village, Khanh Phu commune) has 42 goats (2 male Boer goats, 32 female Boer crossbred goats and 8 female Bach Thao goats). According to Mr. Bach's estimate, after about 7 months of raising, the goats can be sold for meat; after 9 months of raising, the goats can be sold for breeding.

This will help him improve his economy significantly. During the process of raising goats, he is also regularly instructed by technical staff on raising and caring techniques, and supported in handling problems that arise in raising animals.

Goats are raised at Mr. Trieu Duc Phan's household, Khanh Trung commune, Khanh Vinh district, Khanh Hoa province.

Entering the second year of the project, the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center coordinated with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Cam Lam district and the People's Committee of Suoi Cat commune (Cam Lam district, Khanh Hoa province) to select 2 households in Suoi Lau 2 village to participate in the model that met all the conditions and criteria set out by the project.

According to the project manager, after selecting participating households, in February 2024, the center's professional staff began instructing 2 households to build barns, plant grass and prepare facilities, and provide training in goat raising techniques before providing breeding goats and supplies.

On May 21, Mr. Nguyen Van Manh's household was given 63 breeding goats; Mr. Nguyen Xuan Vinh's household was given 42 breeding goats. In addition, the two households also received initial supplies such as veterinary medicine, vaccines and goat food.

According to Mr. Nguyen Xuan Vinh, in addition to supporting seeds, technical staff of the agricultural extension agency also trained him on preliminary processing of goat feed; instructions on fermenting feed from corn biomass and probiotics to serve as goat feed in winter.

Potential for tourism development

When selecting households to participate in the model, in addition to the criteria of transparency, correct target, completeness and meeting project requirements, the location to build a project implementation model must have potential for goat farming development and ecological zone development.

Therefore, the models being implemented all have "prime" locations for tourism development. On a 5-hectare farm in Khanh Trung commune, Mr. Phan not only raises goats but also grows many types of timber and fruit trees, and grows grass to raise goats.

He also renovated the garden into a greener, more beautiful landscape to create an ecological environment with the potential to attract tourists. The 2-hectare farm of Mr. Bach's family in Khanh Phu commune is also becoming more and more beautiful with rows of green trees, a herd of goats leisurely nibbling on leaves, playing, and looking very pleasing to the eye.

The farm areas of Mr. Nguyen Xuan Vinh and Mr. Nguyen Van Manh in Suoi Lau 2 village, Suoi Cat commune are both hilly garden areas with streams, green trees, located next to the road to Hon Ba... with beautiful natural scenery, which are ideal conditions for future eco-tourism exploitation.

According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Son, initial results show that the project is consistent with the province's livestock development policy, is supported by the people, enthusiastically participated in, and has close coordination and management by authorities at all levels.

The goat breeding model is suitable for raw material areas associated with local people's ecotourism.

With the regular and continuous professional support of technical staff, the project has brought high efficiency in livestock productivity, while opening up new economic development directions for households.

The project to build a model of breeding goats to create raw material areas associated with eco-tourism is chaired by the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center for 3 years 2023 - 2025, with the goal of transferring scientific and technical advances in breeding goats, using a variety of goat breeds to improve productivity, quality and product value.

The project also creates a raw material area associated with eco-tourism, replicates the model and improves people's knowledge about breeding goats. The total cost of implementing the model is 2.7 billion VND from the national agricultural extension fund.
