On the afternoon of March 8, in Vinh Chau town (Soc Trang), Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) coordinated with the Vietnam Electricity Trade Union to organize a launching ceremony to compete to complete the construction progress targets of the project to supply electricity from the national grid to Con Dao district ( Ba Ria - Vung Tau province).
The project has a scale of 110kV voltage supply with a total length of 103.7km, including: 17.5km overhead line through Soc Trang province; 77.7km long submarine cable connecting from the mainland to the island; 8.5km long submarine cable on the island in Con Dao district and transformer station (expansion of 220kV Vinh Chau substation, Soc Trang and construction of 110/22kV GIS substation in Con Dao).
The total investment of the project is nearly 5,000 billion VND. Of which, the central budget support capital is about 2,500 billion VND and the rest is EVN's own capital.
At the launching ceremony, Mr. Pham Thanh Hoai, Director of Power Project Management Board 3 under EVN, stated that the general progress is to energize the project in the 4th quarter of 2020 (target of September 2, 2025) and complete the entire project in the 3rd quarter of 2026.

Speaking at the emulation launching ceremony, Mr. Le Ngoc Khanh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, said that the completion of the project's power supply on September 2 will create an important mark to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the country's founding.
This is not only a key task but also a mission that demonstrates the responsibility and determination of all levels, sectors and all officers and employees participating in the project.
Mr. Khanh committed to the motto "accompanying and creating", the government and people of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province committed to accompany, provide maximum support, and promptly remove difficulties and obstacles to ensure the project is implemented on schedule.
Con Dao only has electricity from diesel sources, capacity 11.8MW
According to EVN, Con Dao is a locality with a particularly important position in terms of national defense, security and sovereignty over sea and islands, and is also a destination with high historical, cultural and tourism value.
However, the current power system of the island district mainly relies on diesel with limited capacity (11.8 MW), unable to meet the needs of future socio-economic development.
It is expected that after completion of the project, the line will supply electricity to Con Dao district with a total capacity of about 29MW in 2026, 55MW in 2030 and 90MW in 2035.
