On September 24, 2024, on the occasion of attending the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, USA, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son chaired a working breakfast with Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Saleumxay Kommasith and Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Sok Chenda Sophea.

Along with the existing tripartite cooperation mechanisms, this is the first meeting of the three Deputy Prime Ministers and Foreign Ministers to implement the results of the meeting between the Prime Ministers of the three countries on the occasion of attending the Summit to celebrate the 50th anniversary of ASEAN - Japan relations in Tokyo in December 2023. The working breakfast between Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son with Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Saleumxay Kommasith and Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Sok Chenda Sophea is an important event to strengthen the cooperative relationship between the three countries of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. During this working session, some of the contents discussed include: The situation of tripartite cooperation: The leaders will jointly evaluate the results achieved in cooperation between the three countries in the past time and propose directions for cooperation in the coming time. The parties discussed regional issues: Discussed the regional security and political situation as well as issues affecting the sustainable development of the three countries. The parties agreed to cooperate within the ASEAN framework: Discussed the roles and responsibilities of ASEAN countries as well as the implementation of plans to promote solidarity and cooperation in the region. Shared views and experiences: Countries can share experiences and lessons in foreign policy, thereby enhancing mutual understanding and cooperation. Highlights in bilateral relations: Emphasized specific areas that need to be prioritized for development in bilateral relations between each pair of countries, contributing to strengthening the friendship and cooperation. This working session is not only an opportunity to exchange information and experiences but also helps to strengthen the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, towards building a peaceful , stable and developed ASEAN. At the end of the meeting, the three Deputy Prime Ministers and Foreign Ministers agreed to maintain annual meetings to review areas of cooperation, contributing to promoting comprehensive and mutually beneficial cooperation between the three countries for peace, stability and development in the region./.
