On the afternoon of December 5, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc attended and delivered a speech at the announcement ceremony of "Vietnam's Sustainable Enterprises in 2025".

Determined to transform the growth model towards green, clean and sustainable direction

Speaking at the event, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc expressed his joy and assessed this as a meaningful activity, recognizing the efforts and achievements of the Vietnamese business community on the journey of sustainable development.

Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc highly appreciated the initiative of the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry in chairing and coordinating with central ministries, departments and branches to organize the program to evaluate and announce sustainable Vietnamese enterprises and maintain it continuously for the past 10 years.

The program not only honors pioneering enterprises but also promotes and spreads the awareness of sustainable development in the business community, especially the private economic sector, in the spirit of Resolution No. 68-NQ/TW of the Politburo.

The Deputy Prime Minister shared: Since the NetZero commitment at the COP26 Conference (2021), Vietnam has continuously demonstrated its role as a proactive, responsible and active developing country in global efforts to respond to climate change and promote green transformation and digital transformation, becoming one of the first three developing countries to implement the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) with specific steps in building a priority project portfolio, attracting international investment resources for renewable energy and transmission infrastructure.

In the world and the region, Vietnam actively participates in global initiatives such as: Climate Agreement from nature, green finance development, carbon market development, and cooperation frameworks on artificial intelligence for sustainable development; is working with ASEAN to promote the construction of the ASEAN Green Growth Area and the ASEAN Digital Transformation Framework.

Domestically, Vietnam has also continuously implemented many strong measures to realize its commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2050; including updating and promoting the implementation of the Climate Change Strategy and Green Growth Strategy; completing and adjusting the Power Plan VIII towards increasing the proportion of renewable energy, gradually reducing coal and fossil power; issuing the Hydrogen Energy Strategy, gradually forming a domestic carbon market, and simultaneously implementing tasks in the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP).

These efforts affirm Vietnam's determination to transform its growth model towards green, clean and sustainable growth; at the same time, opening up new development space for businesses on the journey of international integration and competition.

A sustainable business community is a solid foundation for the national economy.

All of these actions clearly affirm the spirit of "once committed, it must be implemented, once implemented, it must be effective". Vietnam is transforming strongly, systematically and consistently towards sustainable development, towards a green, circular, low-emission and innovation-based economy. In that journey, the business community is the core force that makes important contributions to the country's development process.

Global agendas on sustainable development emphasize the role of businesses in successfully implementing the sustainable development goals (SDGs).

Even in the issued legal documents, the role of enterprises is also emphasized, as one of the decisive factors contributing to the realization of strategies, plans, and goals for sustainable development in general and green growth in particular.

To do this well requires sustainable development from the business side. In the current context, promoting sustainable business development is an urgent and objective requirement to build a self-reliant, self-reliant business community that is able to adapt and withstand fluctuations and challenges.

A sustainable business community will be a solid foundation for the national economy, thereby effectively contributing to the country's socio-economic development.

CSI and the Corporate Sustainability Index - important tools to promote corporate integration

The Deputy Prime Minister said that in order to create a favorable business environment, support and encourage businesses to implement sustainable development through green transformation and digital transformation, recently, the Party and State have issued many important policies and guidelines, including many breakthrough resolutions for development.

In particular, Resolution 41-NQ/TW assigns VCCI and representative organizations many important tasks, including "supporting entrepreneurs and businesses to develop sustainably". Resolution 68-NQ/TW also emphasizes "honoring, praising, and rewarding typical businesses... that do business effectively, sustainably, and fulfill their social responsibilities well".

Therefore, the implementation of the Program for Assessment and Announcement of Sustainable Enterprises in Vietnam in 2025 (CSI 2025) is to contribute to the effective implementation of the tasks that Resolution 41 and Resolution 68 entrusted to VCCI.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that the CSI Program and the set of indicators for assessing sustainable enterprises, built in this context, have become an important tool to promote business integration.

This year’s CSI program continues to make a special mark by attracting the participation of nearly 500 businesses across the country, clearly demonstrating the trend and determination of the Vietnamese business community on the path to sustainable development. The evaluation council has selected the most typical profiles, representing more than 100 excellent businesses in the fields of production, trade and services.

It is very encouraging that the rate of businesses participating in the program for the first time continues to increase, showing that the story of sustainable development is spreading widely in the community, attracting more and more businesses, from large to medium and small scale, to join the journey of socially responsible business.

Not only stopping at the basic criteria, this year the program also recognized many pioneering businesses with strategic initiatives on circular economy, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, promoting equality and inclusion in the working environment.

These are models that meet international standards and clearly reflect the green transformation of Vietnamese enterprises.

More importantly, today's results are also the basis for each enterprise to self-assess and perfect its development strategy, improve management efficiency, increase productivity and enhance competitiveness in the context of increasingly deep integration.

Government accompanies businesses in sustainable development in the new era

To enhance the role, responsibility and contribution of the business community to the green and sustainable development of the country in the new era, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc requested ministries, branches, and localities to closely coordinate with VCCI and businesses to continue to focus on implementing the proposed tasks and solutions, focusing on the following key contents:

Firstly , towards a sustainable business community, all businesses from the top leaders to each department need to continue to innovate their thinking on sustainable development; these requirements and principles need to be permeated from the business's strategies and plans to the business activities, investments, products and services of the business, all members look in the same direction with the goal of green and sustainable development.

Second , sustainable development is a long-term journey, requiring each enterprise to be persistent, tenacious, and strongly innovative. In particular, integrating circular economy initiatives, environmental-social-governance (ESG) assessment, building a diverse and inclusive corporate culture, and applying digital transformation in parallel with green and new industrial transformation are key contents. The beginning may be difficult, but it will reap "sweet fruits" in the long term, creating competitive advantages and resilience for businesses in the global marketplace.

Third , to remove the bottlenecks in financial resources and management capacity, the business community needs to proactively improve corporate governance, make information transparent and implement accountability. Preparing and publishing sustainable development and social responsibility reports is a way to build trust with investors and partners.

The CSI index is a useful tool for businesses to review their strengths and weaknesses, thereby building appropriate action plans to improve sustainable production and business efficiency.

Fourth , in the context of many fluctuations in the world, Vietnamese enterprises need to proactively grasp new economic models and continuously innovate to create development space. Enterprises must closely follow and strictly implement the guidelines and policies of the Party and the State, thereby discovering new directions and opportunities. Timely taking advantage of trends such as green markets and responsible consumption helps enterprises expand their markets and create sustainable competitive advantages.

Fifth , Resolutions No. 41, 57, 68, 70, together with the system of mechanisms and policies on green growth, carbon market, renewable energy development and digital infrastructure, have created a comprehensive incentive framework, helping businesses proactively transform their growth model towards green-digital, enhance competitiveness and deeply integrate into the global value chain.

The Deputy Prime Minister requested ministries, agencies and localities to focus on implementing drastically, synchronously and effectively according to their functions, tasks and authority; always be ready to receive, promptly handle and resolve problems and difficulties in institutions, policies and administrative procedures to further improve the efficiency of the administrative system, contributing to supporting and promoting the business community to develop quickly and sustainably.

Create all conditions to promote economic development

Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc affirmed that the Government, the Prime Minister, ministries and branches always accompany businesses, including continuing to innovate and perfect the institutional and policy system, removing obstacles and difficulties, reforming administrative procedures, and drastically improving the investment and business environment to create all conditions to promote technological innovation, digital transformation, and creative transformation for development.

The Government and the Prime Minister are always ready to listen to and accept all initiatives from the business community to participate in perfecting mechanisms and policies.

The Deputy Prime Minister believes that with the foundation and achievements already attained, along with a steadfast and creative spirit, the Vietnamese business community will continue to strongly innovate, cooperate closely and become increasingly successful on the path of sustainable development; Vietnam will have more and more sustainably developing businesses.

Through the CSI 2025 Program, the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) will continue to play a leading role in encouraging businesses to innovate governance according to sustainable criteria, making an important contribution to the process of realizing national sustainable development goals.

Finally, the Deputy Prime Minister hopes that the Vietnamese business community and entrepreneurs will continue to join hands to build a rich, prosperous, happy and sustainably developed Vietnam./.
