The memorandum was signed at the Roundtable Discussion connecting US businesses and Vietnamese localities, organized by the Ministry of Planning and Investment at the Marriott Union Square Hotel, San Francisco, on November 15, 2023.
The memorandum of understanding acknowledges the parties' commitment to supporting Ho Chi Minh City in researching technologies and development roadmaps for low-emission, net-zero-emission renewable energy sources, energy storage technologies, and carbon capture and utilization technologies.
Support relevant agencies and organizations in Ho Chi Minh City to promote low emission reduction and net zero emissions in the construction materials manufacturing sector.
Developing green cities, ecological cities, green buildings, and sustainable urbanization; developing agriculture towards ecological agriculture, organic agriculture, low emissions, and net emissions of "zero".
The Green Alliance also supports the city in developing strategies to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions; identifying the causes of major emission sources in various areas/sectors.
Regarding collaborative research, development, and integration of artificial intelligence (AI) solutions for the transportation sector, following the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, the parties expect to propose solutions to the city on smart city transportation initiatives, deploying AI and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies to improve traffic management, reduce congestion and emissions from transportation, carbon-reducing transportation solutions, optimize transportation infrastructure, and propose strategies for monitoring and reducing emissions for the city.
Also in San Francisco, the Green Alliance signed a Memorandum of Understanding to coordinate research and analysis on opportunities for net emission reduction in Hung Yen province.
The parties acknowledged their commitment to supporting Hung Yen in achieving its green growth goals, including research into technologies and development roadmaps for low-emission renewable energy sources, promoting emission reduction in the transportation sector, developing agriculture towards ecological, organic, and low-emission farming, protecting and restoring natural resources, and developing natural ecosystems, etc.
The event is part of the 30th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting, a six-day event themed "Creating a Resilient and Sustainable Future for All".
The 30th APEC Summit took place against the backdrop of the 30th anniversary of the first APEC Leaders' Summit in the United States (1993-2023) and marking the 25th anniversary of Vietnam's accession to APEC (1998).
