This year, Valentine's Day falls on a Friday and doesn't coincide with the Lunar New Year holiday like last year, so flower and gift shops have more time to prepare and serve customers, hoping for increased sales.

Valentine's Day originated in Europe, but today it is celebrated in many places, from Asia to the Americas and Africa, including Vietnam. On this special day, couples exchange meaningful gifts to affirm their feelings for each other.

This is also a time when the gift market in the capital city is quite vibrant, with a wide variety of designs, styles, and prices, making it easy for customers to choose a suitable gift for their loved ones.

According to observations at supermarkets and gift shops on streets such as Cau Giay, Pham Ngoc Thach, Chua Boc, Hai Ba Trung, and Ba Trieu ( Hanoi ), as well as on social media, the market for flowers and gifts for Valentine's Day this year is quite rich and diverse; among them, traditional items such as fresh flowers, chocolates, and other practical gifts are always the top choices for couples.

According to flower shops, fresh flowers are the most meaningful and indispensable gift on Valentine's Day. One of the most popular flower colors chosen for Valentine's Day is red, as red is often associated with love, romance, and passion.

Regarding prices, shop owners say that in the days leading up to Valentine's Day, the price of fresh flowers increases by about 15-20% compared to normal days due to high demand, especially since this year's Valentine's Day is only two days after the Lunar New Year, so the supply is limited. Furthermore, fresh flowers are a unique commodity that cannot be stored in advance, so they must be imported daily to ensure freshness and attractive designs; therefore, the price of flowers also fluctuates daily.

According to a survey of fresh flower prices at flower shops in the days leading up to Valentine's Day, Da Lat roses are priced at 20,000 - 25,000 VND/flower, an increase of 5,000 VND/flower; red roses are priced at 25,000 - 30,000 VND/flower, an increase of 8,000 - 10,000 VND/flower; white baby's breath flowers are priced at 220,000 - 250,000 VND/bouquet, an increase of 50,000 VND/bouquet...

Recognizing this demand, Ms. Hoang Thu Ha, owner of a flower shop on Hai Ba Trung Street (Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi), has imported a large quantity of red roses to sell during this period. Ms. Ha said that because her customers are of various ages, in addition to red roses, she also imports roses in many other colors to meet customer needs. During these days, the number of orders can double compared to normal days, ranging from 100 to 150 bouquets or arrangements per day. Depending on the customer's preferences, the shop will advise on the selection of suitable fresh flowers.

Due to high demand for Valentine's Day, Ms. Duyen, the owner of a flower shop on Tran Quoc Toan street, said that her shop imported about 5,000 rose stems; prioritizing red roses and pastel colors (light, soft shades) which are very popular with young people. In addition to fresh flowers, the shop also prepared about 100 elaborate and beautiful bouquets, baskets, and boxes of flowers, priced from under 500,000 VND to over 1 million VND per arrangement.

Valentine's Day is a day dedicated to romantic love. Chocolate, with its sweet message of love, is a popular gift choice among young people. Therefore, Ms. Nguyen Mai Hoa, the owner of a shop on Hang Buom Street, has proactively imported various types of chocolate at prices ranging from 100,000-200,000 VND per box to over 400,000 VND per box for sale.

According to Ms. Hoa, the demand for chocolate on Valentine's Day increases significantly compared to normal days, so she imports quite a lot of chocolate boxes at various price points to suit customers' budgets.

On Valentine's Day, practical gifts like perfume and lipstick are also popular choices. Ms. Nguyen Le Hiep, who runs a cosmetics business on Ly Thai To Street, said that before and on February 14th, the number of customers at her store increased many times compared to normal days, as customers often come to buy perfume and lipstick as gifts for their significant others. To meet customer demand, this year the store imported perfumes and lipsticks from many famous brands. Perfumes range in price from several hundred thousand dong to several million dong per bottle depending on the volume; lipsticks range from over 400,000 - 600,000 dong per stick to over 1 million dong per stick.

To attract customers and stimulate consumer spending during Valentine's Day, stores, shopping malls, and supermarkets are launching many attractive promotions, discounts, and gift giveaways. Anticipating the Valentine's Day market on February 14th, Saigon Co.op is implementing the "Every Price is Great - Every Deal is Lovely" program at 800 sales points nationwide, including Co.opmart, Co.opXtra, Co.op Food, Co.op Smile, Finelife, Cheers, Sense City, and Sense Market. Co.opmart and Co.opXtra are preparing a large quantity of typical Valentine's Day items such as chocolates, sweets, stuffed animals, beauty products, and fashion items. In particular, customers can choose from carefully packaged, beautifully presented green gift baskets containing fresh domestic and imported vegetables, fruits, and other produce, making them unique gifts for couples.

VinMart supermarket chain is implementing attractive promotional programs to stimulate consumer demand in the early part of the new year and help customers save money. Specifically, the "Exciting Festival - Great Deals" promotion, running from February 13th to 26th, 2025, offers discounts of up to 50%, buy one get one free, and buy two get one free on many items. Especially during this time, WinMart/WinMart+/WiN is also catering to the sweet Valentine's Day market with countless attractive offers of up to 25% off on products for couples such as Son La strawberries, Lindt/Merci chocolates, or personal care products like Tresemme shampoo, On The Body shower gel, Banobagi face masks, etc.

At BRG Mart supermarket chain, many chocolate items are discounted by 20-40%, and some fresh fruits like apples are discounted by up to 30%.

Along Chua Boc, Pham Ngoc Thach, and Ba Trieu streets, fashion stores are also offering discounts of 30-50% on ready-to-wear clothing for both men and women. This is an opportunity for couples to buy fashionable gifts for each other on Valentine's Day.

As you can see, this year's Valentine's Day gift market is quite diverse in terms of designs, types, and prices. Everyone just needs to choose a meaningful gift that fits their budget to give to their significant other on Valentine's Day.
